Many thanks Dosboy - I hope she brings you much profit in-game.
Dosboy 20 Mar, 2023 @ 11:37pm
Dang, this is a really nice ship. Great job!

Yeah, I noticed it after I asked the question. I just forgot to delete my comment.

@Shor's_Algoritm please see my reply to [HUN]Electric immediately before your question.

Is this compatible with Reforged Eden, by chance?
thegazbeard  [author] 16 Aug, 2022 @ 12:24am
@[HUN]Electric - many thanks for your love of Splinter.

Unfortunately this is "one of those ships" that would need a ground-up rebuild for RE. Just about everything would need ripped out and replaced including all the hardened and combat blocks (which would all become plain steel or carbon due to RE's weight system) and the shield generator would have to drop to the small one as default because of CPU.
[HUN]Electric 15 Aug, 2022 @ 2:47pm
I wish you'd make this in a RE version. Love this ship.

Many thanks Dawngael - it means a lot to know my efforts bring pleasure to people
dawngael 26 May, 2022 @ 5:32am
Just another brief note to say that I've been using this little ship for a few weeks now and it's the best CV I've ever spawned. Thanks again for an amazing build.
shyruban 15 May, 2022 @ 6:18am
Ok thank you.
thegazbeard  [author] 14 May, 2022 @ 10:17am
i.e. - if she needs 20MN to lift off in 1G, she'll need 80 in 4G.
As her thrust effectiveness drops from 460MN to 115MN in 4G, you'll have 115-80 = 35MN for lifting cargo.
thegazbeard  [author] 14 May, 2022 @ 10:15am
@shyruban - if you look at the screenshot for statistics (with the diagram of a ship showing flight directions) you'll see that Splinter has 460-ish MegaNewtons of lift thrust, but only needs under 20 to get her off the ground (based on a 1G planet gravity). She can actually take off very easily and quickly in 1G gravity with all 3 x 320kSU storages, and all her smaller storage boxes, completely full.
To understand how she'd perform in other gravities is simple maths ... 2G would be 460MN/2 = 230. 4G would be 460/4 = 115. (so adjust weight on-board accordingly)
shyruban 14 May, 2022 @ 9:56am
can it easily take off from a 1 G planet? Or a bit higher even?
thegazbeard  [author] 14 May, 2022 @ 9:52am
@shyruban - I guess you could remove the top mid turret and drop 9 flat block in its position to help with landing a small CV on top.
shyruban 14 May, 2022 @ 9:47am
Ok thanx , I will most likely build it anyways, the salvage\mining is what i was after anyways, later on at some point i'll build a large one. Anyways there is probably room on top to land at least my small SV, just a small ship to go to my base and fetch stuff.
thegazbeard  [author] 14 May, 2022 @ 9:42am
@dawngael - paint the drills full black to tone them down so reflections from them are not causing glare behind the minimap, then you shouldn't have that problem.
thegazbeard  [author] 14 May, 2022 @ 9:40am
@shyruban - unfortunately, no - Splinter is a role-specific mining and salvage CV designed to do in space all the activities you would normally have two or more SV's to do. The only possibility to add a hangar would involve removing the warp drive, shield, stern turret, and a bunch of storage boxes and the teleporter ... but then she would be useless as a CV and you'd be better with an SV instead.
shyruban 14 May, 2022 @ 9:05am
Hi, I like this ship a lot, so it does not have a hangar? I have a couple of SV's I'd like to carry, one small quick one and one that's fairly big. Anyway i could carry them on this? Sorry for question to which there most likely is an obvious answer, I'm fairly new at all this.Thanx.
Orclover 11 May, 2022 @ 3:17pm
@thegazbeard Coloring it and having a LCD sign nearby with the same color and an arrow pointing to it, not uncalled for :D

Or maybe even a hologram emitter to point it out. Mind you its only for new people. As a anti-theft device its fine.
dawngael 11 May, 2022 @ 2:00pm
Great ship! Just took it on its first voyage and it preformed admirably. I gotta say, that entrance ramp is all but impossible to find!! I painted it when I finally located it or I'd have lost it every time, Aside from that, my only issue was the drills blocking the mini map . Thanks for the great build :-)
thegazbeard  [author] 11 May, 2022 @ 11:33am
LOL - even jrandall didn't see it when he reviewed it :lunar2019laughingpig: I should try to get Star Citizen to use the design to stop shipjacking on landing pads.
Orclover 9 May, 2022 @ 4:58pm
@thegazbeard Geez I musta done laps over that thing looking for it.
thegazbeard  [author] 9 May, 2022 @ 1:05pm
@Orclover - the entrance is on the underside - it is a boarding ramp just behind and between the front landing gears. It's shown in two of the screen shots of the underneath of the ship, and in at least two of the interior shots.
Orclover 7 May, 2022 @ 8:09pm
I like the design and use of space. I really want to upvote it, but....where the heck the door? I have been over this thing over and over and the only way in is god mode and teleporter.
thegazbeard  [author] 6 May, 2022 @ 6:44am
Many thanks @Water_and_Steel and @Diemex

It should be fine on high-G planets (certainly up to 4G anyway, beyond that I'm not so sure).
As a CV, in vanilla, you won't be using it for mining on-planet as CV drills are "use in space only".
Diemex 5 May, 2022 @ 11:09am
Sweet looking compact mining ship.
Water and Steel 4 May, 2022 @ 5:22pm
I agree with Vectrasor so I gave the "gotta have it."
It looks to like a fantastic (survivable) mining CV. I look forward to trying it. My only concern is how it does on high G planets (cause I'm rather new to game and can't tell from the stat page).
But from your description I am very optimistic.

Myrmidon said you can put anything in cargo controllers. The point that is missed (I think) is that a harvest controller (required by harvest tools) will hold the same volume as cargo controllers but NOT NEARLY the number of TYPES OF CARGO as the harvest inventory does not scroll. So the CV will definitely benefit from one harvest and one cargo container. As you have done with your fine CV here.

And with that I'll render a salute, say thank you and step off my soap box. O7 (pushes soap box behind curtain)
thegazbeard  [author] 2 Apr, 2022 @ 12:03pm
@Vectrasor - pleased you like it, have fun with it ... just remember it's not a battlewagon and the armour, shield and weapons are to give you time to escape rather than a reason to do a Charge of the Light Brigade into the Valley of Death.
thegazbeard  [author] 2 Apr, 2022 @ 12:02pm
@whitevalfore - the power hunger of the teleporter is why it's on a motion sensor with a tight focus - it only powers up when you step on the teleporter. It's also why such a small ship has 2 x T-1 Generators ... you can have everything on the ship powered up and running at the same time and have power to spare. Obviously game mechanics don't let you use the teleporter at the same time as the shield, but if you could then the power is available to do it.
thegazbeard  [author] 2 Apr, 2022 @ 11:59am
@Myrmidon - not sure what you mean by "can't put anything in cargo controllers" - I do it constantly ... both directly while standing in front of them, and remotely via the remote connector.

The design concept of the ship is that the mining lasers and the tool turret (for salvage) both feed the ore cargo array. You can then transfer the haul to the general cargo array, from which the constructors draw materials and output assemblies into the various cargo boxes. This is the same concept I use in all my ships and bases, and you can see it in action in my livestreams and videos.
Vectrasor 2 Apr, 2022 @ 9:48am
I was reading your detailed description of your ship and it was almost like I was imagining watching a video on the latest car. I can't wait to try this baby out!
whitevalfore 2 Apr, 2022 @ 9:48am
also only use the teleporter in extreme needs as it is a massive power draw
whitevalfore 2 Apr, 2022 @ 9:40am
Damn you crammed quite a bit into this ship
Myrmidon 2 Apr, 2022 @ 5:53am
Nice looking ship with plenty of cargo and tools to utilize. My thought is you should convert the cargo controller to harvest. This way the palyer will have more space for mined ore and be default equal space for cargo since you can put anything in cargo controllers anyway. My
