I felt like I should give this game another try since last night I was playing this drunk.

This will be the second time I write a review for this game. I would like to praise the concept and I like the atmosphere. Im a huge HP lovecraft fan which is what drew me to the game in the first place. On top of that it was a metroidvania game, one of my favorite genres. I spent a few hours trying to "git gud" at this game but honestly; I just found it bogged down with a lot of issues.

The dodging mechanic is super wonky. Sometimes I go forward sometimes backwards in combat. Its frustrating.

When you do the repel/shield thing while on the ground, you cannot jump. which makes it difficult if youre trying to tackle a hazuth docker and a yuggoth muscle at the same time. I.E. I can repel the bullet from the docker, but a yuggoth swipes at me and its unavoidable cause the repel animation is uninterruptable.

The game is dark, which is fine but when you are fighting a nightgaunt I cant see the damn spears it throws at me to repel it. If im fighting something else it becomes a huge pain. More frustration is added when you repel it but get smacked by an undertaker replica because you couldnt jump to avoid it.

Theres no minimap.

I was only able to find 6 yth stones. The game says these stones are finite. Which means you are level capped. If i wanted to sit around and fight a billion yuggoth muscles so i can level up enough to get through the first boss, that should be completely up to me not the developers.

Accidentally hitting a chest will destroy it and whatever is inside. If its a mimic and you open it, it will automatically take vitae from you. Theres no way to dodge it. So you can break the chest and lose an item or take your chances and lose vitae.

You cannot attack while crouching.

Im having this weird issue on my pc. It may be because i have a widescreen monitor but the sides of my screen dont stay black and weird images get stuck on the sides.

Eraen the posessed advocate has an attack that seems to hit the whole screen that I was only able to dodge once. if your GRD is already low from attacking/rolling/ pretty much anything you do. You just die.

Im all for difficult games, hell I enjoy playing holy diver on NES. But like I said above this game has too many issues for me to enjoy. Now that I spent too much time playing it I cant return it. I do hope pugware addresses these issues because i do very much want to like the game. But in its current state I cannot reccommend it to anyone that isnt a masochist.

You can dodge bullets and work on sounds too yknow... you dont HAVE to shield every projectile, and its even better to roll through most unless you want to reflect it back at the shooter. Im just hearing you not understanding things.

The GRD isn't stamina. You can roll and shield forever. It's when the meter is full that it allows you to take minimal to no damage. (And, there is attack cancelling. You can roll away or throw up your shield before you finish a swing to save your skin.)

It's a game of patience and evasion.

You cannot change roll direction once initiated, if you did not hold the direction down when initiating it will roll backwards, I and all the players tested it for months and nobody had reported any issue with it.

For the entire duration of the guard your are invincible. The very frame that ends you can initiate a roll. There is zero cool-down between actions, you can practically roll and guard forever with no delay.

Costumer friendly is not the same as changing basic design on request. I listen to feedback and changed several things during EA, but basic design is not going to change on appeal to popularity. If you think that's an antagonistic approach to costumers I am sorry, but I can't help you.

Well the dodge isnt working as intended. Im telling you that and so are others. Im not the only one having these issues.
All youve convinced me is that i should stay the hell away from any game developed by pugware. I spent at least 4 hours trying to figure out your combat mechanics. I read the instructions and i keep coming across the same problems. If i repel a bullet the character puts up his arm, during that animation I cant move. If theres another enemy atacking i cant dodge.
Look you dont have to change anything. But so far pugware doesnt seem to be consumer friendly and just like you dont have to change anything. I dont have to support your company.

The dodge is working as intended. If you dont press a direction you go backwards, if you hold a direction you roll that way.

There is no minimap and there will never be one, rooms are all unique and hand-drawn, there is ample navigational guides.

Yth stones are finite per playthrough 120. Almost 40 are immediately accessible. That is far more than you will ever need, and you can get another 120 on every playthrough in NGplus. You are intentionally limited to dis encourage grinding.

Eraen's attack has a massive gap in it, right under him, you can just stroll there and never get hit.

What you described as issues will not change.

It's not hard, the guard system makes it actually really easy. I'm not trying to be condescending or git good or anything but rolling in the game allows you to not only take no damage, but it recovers your guard. Shield also provides full Iframes for its duration.

You cannot tank hits, especially int he beginning, period. All enemies provide gaps of time to attack. If you you attack carelessly you will die. If you use roll, and shield right you can kill everything.

Again I do not want to sound arrogant, I'm not talking elitism here, but the game features a new system that you dont find in other games in regards to damage handling by fusing stamina and a regenerating shield.
