If you like Megaman or Shovel Knight, you will like this game too. I must admit that this game still has some flaw in level design, such as secret path with no hints, ect... beside that, this is a good fan game.

100% Achievements in about 12 hours. Bear in mind I played the itch.io version before this release with all it's new additions, so add on maybe 5-6 more from learning the game back then.

Flare Nuinui Quest is essentially 3 platformers in one: the main one, which has been compared to Mega Man in the minute-to-minute gameplay (but linear instead of selecting from a pool of stages); a non-linear, somewhat technical and challenging one with rocket jumps and an in-menu shop to heal/power up temporarily; and a series of smaller stages and boss fights that's more of a time attack mode. Each features a different playable character, including an unlockable 4th character that can be played alongside the main mode or on their own (think Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin for the former and Richter mode in SotN for the latter).

The game's replayability comes from its challenging achievements. The main game isn't terribly difficult to finish, though some players may struggle to get the true end. It's a fan game made for a large group of streamers with a broad range of skill levels at the end of the day, but it's a high-quality product nonetheless. The music is fantastic as well. Even though I don't know Hololive JP's songs that well, the remixes here have gotten stuck in my head a few times already.

If there's anything I'd like to see added, it's a confirmation when returning to the title screen (as it doesn't save) as well as when overwriting a save. I feel like those are standard practice nowadays, but it's a minor complaint when viewing the game as a whole. Just be careful not to fumble a menu if you haven't saved recently... might have cost me a couple coins that I had to re-do in Marine's levels... (If these changes happen, I'll try to remember to edit the review in kind.)

Also, fair warning. Save your games separately for each character. Repeat. DO NOT OVERWRITE FLARE'S, PEKORA'S, OR MARINE'S SAVE DATA WITH EACH OTHER. They are individual files and do not contain your overall progress. Make sure to have backup saves.

TL;DR it's a great game with some minor hiccups that, unless patched later, can cause lost progress if you're not careful.

I first watched the game be played by one of the Hololive talents, and I got around to playing it and found this game had some quirks I didn't like:
- healing to full either requires grinding health, grinding rock paper scissors with Watame, or just dying to something.
- lengthy, uninteresting autoscrollers you can trivialize with constant shooting.
- mandatory lengthy autoscroller before a boss that you can only shoot one direction in.
- almost non existent invincibility frames, you can take damage to the same thing twice while you were trying to get out of its path.
- Attacking is annoying because it requires repetitive mashing. Marine's gameplay is guilty of this, my hands hurt trying to beat the bosses.
I guess the only accessibility options are to use the shops in the pause menu, like Marine relinquishing the chance to get a score for health, which I always used because I just don't care about score mechanics.
It really has some good parts, but it just frustrates me, specifically, too much to finish it, I'll probably figure out something with cheat engine to make the game bearable. Which is sad, because I looked forward to more HoloIndie games, and the game had much more interesting things up its sleeve, from what I've seen on streams.

Edit: The save system is actually busted or the developer has a warped sense of what should be saved. There is an option to save, but loading it just puts me at the very beginning of the game. I'll give the developer the benefit of the doubt, in case they didn't have enough QA testing, but loading from the very beginning when I was right before a boss is absolutely not something that should fly in 2024.
