Turtle's L'il Dragon Race

Description
Presenting, Turtle's L'il Dragon Race!
This mod adds a new playable dragon race, made possible with MrPlague's Authentic Races.
Brought into the world of Terraria as mere statues... they're now ready to break free!

These dragons are small and have lost their magical abilities, but can regain them through various items!
With their bulky frame, this race trades speed for great durability.

***** Main Traits *****
+ 30% increased max health
+ 10 increased defence
+ 10% increased damage reduction
- 20% reduced speed (affects accessory speed changes, too)
- Reduced jump force

***** Other Traits *****
+ Greatly improved acceleration.
~ Non-minecart mounts act like transformations, hiding your character. Items can still be used.
- Wider hitbox. You can still fit into a 2 block gap. Hitbox is reverted to normal while mounted.
- Starts petrified for a few seconds, but only once (this is just for flavour!)
* Crouch by holding DOWN.
* Can be mounted by others, granting resistance to the rider.

***** About Mounting *****
To mount a dragon, [INTERACT] with them while nearby. Press [JUMP], or [INTERACT] with the player again to dismount.
Races that can be mounted are not able to mount others. Server configs exist to change this behaviour.
Riders get 50% final damage reduction by default. Players can kick riders off by [INTERACT]ing with them.
You can also craft a Bridle at a Loom with 3 Silk and 50 Rope. While in your inventory, the bridle lets riders control your movements.
In order to dismount a bridled player, you must [INTERACT] with them. Using [JUMP] will simply make the mounted player jump.
Also, mountable players can 'pick up' others by [INTERACT]ing with them! Players can disable being picked up in their client config if desired.

***** About Elemental Breath *****
Make the Dragon Breath Bench with 10 obsidian! You'll then need 3 of either Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz or Emerald gems.

Craft Breath Power Gems using milestone materials (eg. Demonite/Crimtane) to raise the breath attack damage.
Using the same Breath Power Gem twice has no effect, so you'll need to make stronger power gems to boost your breath attack further.

Once unlocked, use elemental breath by holding [PRIMARY RACIAL SKILL], Z by default.
Using elemental breath for too long will exhaust the dragon, causing breath attacks to become weaker.
Your dragon's eye will start closing to indicate that you need to rest for a bit.

As a bonus - Craft the Affinity Gem using one of each breath gem type and a Golden Key!
When used, toggles if your dragon receives special benefits based on your active breath type.
Please check the item's description and server configs ingame for more details.

***** About Dragon Pedestals *****
You can craft pedestals for the dragon to pose on as a statue.
A Heavy Workbench and 15 (for a small pedestal) or 30 (for a big pedestal) Stone blocks are required to craft pedestals.
Pedestals act as a bed and can be used even outside of a valid room, allowing you to set your spawnpoint and pass time quickly.

***** Custom Vanities *****
Dragons can make a special Dragon Vanity Bench with 10 wood.
The bench can be used to craft a variety of items made to fit on dragons! More are being added with time.
When crafting items that take a vanilla item and turn it into a dragon-compatible version of the same, the materials will not be consumed!
There's also a money pile you can make here which the dragon can sit on.

***** Additional Notes *****
- Highly configurable. Want dragons that are fireproof? Hydrophobic? Slower? Faster? We've got that and more.
- Wings are not innate! You still need to get wings normally, but a new set of wings just for dragons can be made with a Lucky Horseshoe and 10 Feathers at an Anvil (can be modified by server config).
- Some accessory layers are hidden, as they don't fit properly.
- Leg and torso armour won't show unless it's specifically made for dragons.
- This race and other races built on this codebase can hop slightly while petrified. This can be disabled in the server config.
- This mod acts as a library for other similar mods that I make and is often a dependency for that reason.

***** Special Thanks *****
Poem The Dragon (several armour sprites)
Syrreth (several of the screenshots featured on the workshop page)
The_furf_of_July (various petrification-related suggestions, among other things)
SeranataSpiritwyrm (furf told me they were responsible for the bridle idea. Thank you!)
DragonByte9 (idea for a gem to give perks based on breath types, which became the Affinity Gem)
Joshthefox (some custom NPC dialogue ideas)
Solarium_ (idea for the breath bar, which I added some spice to~)

@kaymapi I'm not talking about the numbers, I'm talking about the roleplaying.

Amethyst :)

But no, there’s no new breath types planned at the moment, I got a handful of other things I’m looking to implement.
The Life breath is pretty much poison breath though, and even more so if you play with Calamity and upgrade to the improved version of the Life breath, which is purple!

is there any breath types coming soon? i think poison would be cool for a new one but idk what youd use to craft it

But you can alter and change a lot of that stuff in the configuration of the mod already, you can make the dragon as overpowered as you want already and getting wings isn't really that difficult to begin with, If you are looking for the elemental element search for the gem dragons race mod, is not the best but they do have unique habilities and play styles

Here comes unpopular opinion: this mod needs toggleable elemental resistances for RP. As in - to be able to toggle not only lava immunity, but all others too - make your dragon an underwater dweller, for example, or a cave native with natural Night Vision, or a skyborn with innate wings. Dragons are such a beloved race mainly because of this interspecial diversity, whatever your preferences are - there is a dragon that fits.
Really wish this race would lean more into the RP and customisation potential. Way too many mods get fixated on "vanilla balance", completely missing the memo that not many people play strictly vanilla game to begin with. I mean, Calamity, Spirit and Thorium do exist...

Hey all, a Discord server for all things related to my mods is now available! This link is also available on most of my mod pages now, too (alongside a Ko-fi link): https://discord.gg/3hbbEAuRG5

I will continue to monitor the Steam comments section as usual, and change logs will continue to be available on the Steam Workshop pages for my mods, but the Discord server will provide a more open way for you to get in touch with me and a like-minded community, or suggest ideas/submit bug reports in forums~

The change to the Stone Potion has been reverted now.
Turtleren  [author] 5 Jan @ 12:01am
Ah, that's completely fair.
Unfortunately I have to be pretty reserved with the healing effect since you can effectively ignore the petrification effect by simply using the Stone Shield Trinket, which will remove the petrification the next time you get hit, and you'll only take 1 damage.

But yeah, you're right. In its current state, it has become neither fun to use nor useful as a healing item, so I'll just be reverting that change and leaving it as-is.

I like the change to the petrification ignoring immunity but I'm not exactly a fan of the change to the stone potion

What I had in mine was that you could craft the stone potion into variants of the three main healing potion (lesser, regular, & greater) that healed for say 50% more but applied the petrify effect, while the original remained as a just for fun item. But changing the original just makes it a worse healing potion rather than being unique and useless but fun.

I would rather the stone potion remain unchanged and just petrify you rather than it having an effect, if coding the potions would be too much work, then are you able to please revert the stone potion?
Turtleren  [author] 4 Jan @ 5:24pm
These are some good points. I'm not sure what I can do for the blowpipe since the dragon's head is made to match the direction the player's arm would normally point (which for the blowpipe, is diagonally upwards).

I'll look into giving the stone potion a healing effect, as well as finding a way to maybe just remove the whole 'cheating the system' death thing, and just fully override immunity to petrification when needing rescue, too.
