Lore
Although initially successful, the Bantam Dropship quickly found itself out of use, when the reality of Naval Combat and technological advancements meant that boarding operations rarely occured. The Bantam became popular among the Border Guard, who still did boarding on a regular basis during patrols. However, the dropship was overkill for this role, and it was still decided that something more compact and efficient was needed for the job.

Thus, the Bantam II was developed as a replacement, and with a role as a more general lostical shuttle. The Bantam II lacks the weapons of the first, but its compact size means that it can easily fit into smaller class naval ships and ferry crew and supplies from one ship to another. The Border Guard likewise took up the replacement model, favoring it over its predecessor for its efficiency, and needing little in the way of the predecessor's weaponry anyway.

The Bantam II is lightweight, maneuverable, and able to fit in any 3x5x2 hangar.

Yeah, see, last I played SE, the small blast door blocks were completely redundant as they essentially had the collision of any other armor block, and would not fit as flush as your backdoor design here. I wondered if they were fixed now is all, but I'm going in to try it myself now.

@kerbish plasma shielding is used for explosive suppression or a separation of gases. most mods, though, follow the typical sci-fi trend of kinetic shielding. plus there's the atmospheric limitation that you mention, since it works by ionizing surrounding particles.

@flashartist this is one of the few times i've messed around with it, so i don't really know when it was "fixed". however, i had very few issues putting it together.

How on earth is that back door possible??! I haven't played SE in months, so did they fix the small blast door blocks collision?? IF THEY DID I'M SO EXCITED HOLY FFFFF

@Lord Commissar We actually have designs for shields made out of plasma. They only work in atmosphere though.

guns would defeat the purpose for which this was made. shields are not realistic, which is one thing i strive towards.

as always, i never discourage people from making their own versions if they really want that kind of stuff ;)
