Tesla's Tribune

Description
First thing's first, this is the first map that I have ever worked on. So bare that in mind.

This map was created first and foremost as a spectacle with environmental story-telling in mind. The map tells a story with bits of information that can be derived upon exploration.

The "flatness" of the map was a design decision because it makes the map feel more "video gamey" rather than the impressionist stance that TF2 takes with it's other maps (and I mean that as a compliment).

The minimalism of the Skybox was also a design decision, because it makes the map feel more like an area outside of time & space, rather than a part of a larger whole.

The lack of scratches and other "flaws" in the environment and objects was also a design decision to make the map feel more "clean", again, reinforcing the "video gamey" feel.

I also had the intent of adding more geometry to the Tesla Towers, but I was limited by how many faces I could have in the map. Similarly, the destroyed tanks were going to be heaps of robot parts/bodies, but I was again, limited by how many entities I could have in the map.

I was going to turn the Tesla towers into an area for the snipers by stretching a bridge across between them, but I did not want the emphasis to be on gameplay. This map is designed entirely with environmental story-telling and a place to hang out in mind.

In hindsight, this would be an excellent "Killing Floor" or "Zombies" map.

I loved working on the map, and learnt a lot from the experience.

Happy new year!
