Description
Just Put It On The Floor

TL;DR

This mod allows you to create 0 value display cases - that can be interpreted as markers, allowing you to put items on them - like they would be on the floor without the need for other furniture.

Earliest compatible version
1.07 - introduced dependency on Base Resources mod, and updates to that version from 1.00 to 1.06 may cause some reactions behave unexpectedly.

Introduction

"Where should I put this barrel?" grumbled Urist, struggling under the weight of the massive wooden cask.
Bomrek, the fortress organizer, barely glanced up from his work. "Just put it on the floor."
"But it’s a barrel! It needs a proper place!" Urist protested, his face reddening from the effort of holding the heavy object.
Bomrek sighed, turning to face the beleaguered dwarf. Without a word, he leaned over and spat on the floor, the spit landing with a wet mark on the stone.
"There," Bomrek said. "Just put it on the floor, right there."
Urist stared for a moment, then, with a defeated shrug, he lowered the barrel onto the exact spot Bomrek had marked with his spit. The wood creaked as it settled into place, and Bomrek returned to his work.

Detailed Content

This mod allows you to create various markers on the floor, using different materials for each type of mark. The markers are 0 value display cases and do not using up any resources, allowing you to put items on the floor without the need for proper furniture.:

  • Red Mark – Created using dye, perfect for distinguishing areas.
  • Black Mark – Made from coal, a subtle yet effective marker.
  • White Mark – Chalk-based, ideal for contrast on dark surfaces.
  • Wax Mark – Crafted from wax, also contrast on dark surfaces.
  • Spit Mark – A less conventional but undeniably unique marker.

All vanilla entities (montains, forest, evil, skulkung) can produce these markers but will not use them in trade. Not all markers are avaible for each entity.

Compatibility
This mod is designed to be compatible with most other mods

Limitations
  • As the markers are display cases they will be stored in the stockpile
  • As the markers are display cases they will make placed object looked like on the floor but not having like they would be on the pedestal

Updates
  • 1.00 - Initial release.
  • 1.01...1.04 - Various fixes and improvements based on early feedback.
  • 1.07 - use dye only powders for marking (not other powders like flour) - that also introduced dependency on Base Resources mod

@3085826505 - unfortunately game build-in modding tag system does not support that. Item = sprite(s) and there is no sprite when it is placed on display. In some way that is the reason why this mod is needed - like mine cart looks big and odd on a pedestal.

Your mod fulfills some of my visual quirks. With a little thought, would you modify the size specification of an original set of item placement images? Like the shoes on the floor are no longer giant style... Some items may be bigger...

The stockpile does not allow you to specify the exact item that will be stored there. Similar to Display case and Pedestal (https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Display_furniture) this 'items' are display object tool and basically can be used for the same reason as vanilla ones. In practice me (probably subscribers of this mod) would like to furniture room with more then just few predefined furniture. Eg by placing a mine cart in the miners guild but it would look odd on pedestal.
