Death From Above Reworked (Test version)

Description
Note that this is the early test version of my first attempt at reworking Death from Above. Player discretion is advised.

Please keep in mind this not intended to be a serious/official re balancing mod or replacement for the the actual level. It is however more of a test, teaching myself how to work the basics of the editor whilst having an actual level as an end result. Uploading it to the workshop is a way of getting feedback rather than having it be up as a replacement etc as I mentioned above.

Went over all the enemy encounters/weapon and item placements for Death from Above as a first project of mine:
Both shotguns, Assault Rifle, and Rocket Launcher are all given on this level.
Attempted to make use of the space on this level as there is a lot of it.
Also tried to keep encounters varied and a bit more challenging, kind of like a master level in Doom Eternal but not with all the weapons and crazy high enemy placements etc.
NPC Kenny is gone. Cut scenes/"set pieces" are also gone, but mostly because I'm still figuring out how to work everything.

Please keep in mind that this is my first attempt to mod/create anything for a game so it is VERY rough around the edges...please don't expect a masterpiece.
If anyone has any critiques/advice I'd be happy to hear them : )

I recommend playing on hard, i feel it is most balanced on that difficulty. Also quick save often, I'm not sure to work the auto saving properly sorry.
I'll be updating it in the next day or so as I'm trying to put in objectives and set pieces, more environmental details, new triggers and secrets etc among other things.

Good luck updating the map then (: I'll be waiting a more stable version to review it

@SeriousAmaro Yes the Octanian Bomber is an unused enemy, I just found him in the game's files and decided I might as well use him to see how he works. Same with the voice lines, just unused and in the files and wanted to use them just for fun. Also, yes this mod isn't intended to be an actual serious rebalancing or replacement for the first level, as you said it's more of a testing ground. A testing ground to try and learn how to work spawns, triggers, items, and enemies etc. Also just for fun too. Regarding the bugs you mentioned, i'm working on an update to fix these and also other things like changing triggers, spawns, environment details, and adding secrets etc.
I changed the description and title as you suggested also.
I appreciate all the feedback it was very helpful : )

Brief feedback: make sure to clarify in the title, in-game level text, and description of this mod that this is indeed a testing project, not a rebalance of the first level, or people will blast you for not having triggers, side quest, story, pacing, secrets.. everything basically. A little bit too many voice lines and using enemies only once it's not a really good sign, unless used properly. Tunnel werebulls were used a little bit too much, as for kleers and kamikazes. Geometrically placed enemy spawns and items also rarely feel like Sam 4, but I guess people appreciate the old ways. Good job overall, it's impressive as a first job, and I hope you'll get better at this

I have some questions for you, because this might be my next mod review.. the voice lines and the octanian bomber are all original, unused files? does this mod try to rebalance this level or is it just a testing playground for modding?

I also have a couple of bugs to report: rocketeers spawn before you even get the GL attachment, so they start hitting you while the animation plays (I think they should wait for the player to get the attachment first); also at the end I was softlocked until I realized I had to get that armor pickup, but I had to harm myself because enemies only spawn after pickup the item and I was at 100 armor (I suggest triggering the end level pickups regardless, leaving that fight as optional)

I have never seen a more terrible and boring balance in my life, removing most of the details made this level vile and ugly, the secrets and the additional mission were also removed. There is no worse map than this in the workshop at the moment

Also, I suggest that you should update the thumbnail for this mod. A closeup of a column and a wall doesn't really look eye-catching and presentable, and doesn't show off the mod very well. The text is a bit hard to see too, especially when browsing through the workshop item pages. A white colored font with a black shadow outline should make it pop out more.

@Biomechanoid Many thanks for your thoughts. I totally get what you're saying about the level pacing. Also i'm trying to look into how to get setpieces to work along with putting more enviromental details and secrets etc, I agree it does feel empty. Thanks again for your input : )

Well, played through this on Normal and the changes with the enemy spawners and weapon placements really ruins the pacing of the level. It's supposed to be the first level out of 15 so introducing most of the enemy types this early on in the game just makes the level feel really awkward overall and feel kinda messy, like fighting werebulls in tiny tunnels or arachnoids placed on platforms that are smaller than them. I feel like the vanilla version of the level had this right for the most part.

Also, the removal of the setpieces and some level details really makes the level feel empty. The removal of secrets makes exploration less fun and interesting. Well, except for the parkour secrets, I don't miss those but you could have done something better than to just remove them entirely. Maybe more creative secrets and or more useful items would be a step in the right direction.

Yeah realised this when I went to play the original level oops. Gonna be fixed as soon as i get the chance. Apologies amigos.

This map replaces or edits the base scripts of "Death from Above" - until this is fixed I suggest players disable it when not playing.
