This Leningrad series of residential buildings is a 12-story gray brick building. The houses are equipped with two passenger elevators and a garbage chute. All flats have loggias or balconies. On the 13th floor there is a service room, according to the project, intended for holding general meetings of housing cooperatives. Houses were built at the expense of housing construction cooperatives. The first house of the series was built in 1965 for the housing cooperative «Architektor» at 61 Chernaya Rechka Embankment. The project was further modified and accepted into the series. All subsequent houses built in Leningrad until 1972 were distinguished by the arrangement on the 13th floor of an exit to an 18-meter loggia, as well as some changes in the layout, additional loggias. In the early 70s, according to the original project, 4 more buildings were built in Novosibirsk, and 5 in Perm. Modifications developed later for Nizhny Novgorod do not provide for office space, balconies in all flats were replaced by loggias, and the buildings themselves were built from red brick. In the mid-80s, special changes were also made to the exterior of the buildings. In total, about 17 different modifications of the house were developed, which differ mainly in the location of balconies and flats.

For the development of the project, the authors were awarded diplomas of the second prize of the All-Union competition held by the USSR State Construction Committee in 1965. For its time, this series was a breakthrough in the field of housing construction and was in great demand. It was from this series that the concept of a modern metropolis began to take shape. On the basis of Shch-5416, the E-93 project was later developed, which is very similar in appearance.
