After the original Kahu was introduced, the E.I.P. navy became interested in finding a newer version more suited for the more dynamic battlefield of today. While this retrofit offered a heavy hitting craft suited towards heavy bombardment than its predecessor, its increased mass left it alot slower and less maneuverable, thus unfit for combat. The retrofit project was then scrapped as a new craft, And thus the Kahu mk.2, was introduced.
This version focusing more on the already pre-existing qualities improving on its armour, agility and combat performance. Maintaining its status as the established heavy gunship for the E.I.P.
