AVP Requiem back in 2007 on the Playstation Portable was my last game of those and anyone who played it knew that it wasn't a particularly great game and all the ratings clearly reflected that, and looking at it today;
(D- 5/10 4/10 C- 5.5/10 3/5 6/10...) I have a feeling that was all pretty gracious,
because the game had enormous issues in terms of controlling and camera movements.
If I use two of my alternative rating types, I get the following results for AVPR:

Fun: 4.1
Design: 7.2
Scope: 2.3
Sounds: 5.9
Gameplay: 3.4
Fan-Service: 3.9

Score: 26.8 / 60

Wondering what all of this has to do with Alien Isolation? Let's get to that now.
As some may know, Alien Isolation received mixed and also relatively negative reviews when it was released,
most notably from IGN who rated the game 5.9 out of 10.
Here are a few small quotes from the IGN Verdict:
"...seemed like the perfect Alien game on paper...ends in another disappointment...
mediocre...not the great Alien game we were hoping for..."
Some more AI ratings in relation: 2/5 D+ 80/100 6.5/10 79% 7/10 ...

For me it looks like this:

Fun: 8.7
Design: 9.1
Scope: 7.9
Sounds: 9.3
Gameplay: 8.4
Fan-Service: 9.7

Score: 53.1 / 60

My Lucky Star

If you take my rating and convert it, you get: 88.5% or a B+ and now I'll tell you exactly why.
20 th Century Fox at that time gave CA 3TB of data to work with, and whether a player is aware of it or not,
those who know and love the movies get exactly what they were looking for.
It was said back then: "...it has to look like 1979" And they've nailed it!
Everything, and we'll get to the sound design and the score in a moment as well,
everything was implemented pretty authentically, it's a bit like stepping direct into the creations of
Ridley Scott, Dan O'Bannon and HR Giger.
The motion tracker, the old computers, the wall paneling, generally all the rooms and areas with their certain looks,
but of course the Xenomorph and Facehugger itself, everything screams, now that is an Alien game.
By the way, originally the whole thing was supposed to be a Third-Person game
and Sega wasn't even interested back then, they had something completely different in mind,
but as soon the first demo was presented to them...
"...have you ever been mistaken for a man? ...No. Have you?..."

Over the last few years I've heard people say: I regret sleeping on this and now I know why, and I feel kinda the same way.
Managing resources didn't feel annoying just only necessary, the Xenomorph moves and behaves quite dynamically,
which creates a lot of tension, as much as I would expect it from an Alien game like this.
And the authentic score and the very good sound design also contributes extremely well to the suspense,
hence my advice to play the game either with good speakers or preferably with good closed headphones.
It's not a perfect game and I've encountered a few bugs here and there but it's a really good Alien game,
and while I wait eagerly for the sequel, I'm going to catch up on a few other Alien games I also missed like Fireteam Elite,
even some Pinball and soon Dark Descent, for Rogue Incursion I still lack the VR headset but that can be sorted out.
If you're a fan and you haven't played Alien Isolation yet, well what are you waiting for?
And if you're not maybe you can still become one, I can even give you the recipe for it:
You take a seasoning mixture from Alien, Aliens and Aliens³ from the years 79, 86 and 92
and rub it into the inside of your VHS player, but be careful you don't want to create any kind of salad.
Then dredge Resurrection and Prometheus in flour and put them in the DVD player for 233 minutes at medium heat.
For the gravy deglaze the drippings a little with Covenant and for dessert,
I would serve delicious Romulus with Blue-ray berries ; ))

Thank you for the review and helpful information, without any spoilers. I ended up playing it on Xbox gamepass, with my hubby - about two years ago. It scared the piss out of me but it was my first scary game, I could play on my own - without throwing the controller to someone else.

Every Silent Hill game, I needed assistance with. Every Clock Tower and Siren game, I also needed help with

It left a lasting impression.
