This was quite an interesting and unique premise for a game - I'm always partial to cuteness mixed with horror. For some reason though Momo vaguely reminds me of the creepy creature from "The Feather Pillow" which makes him that much scarier.

Still, wish things could've ended better with the poor boi.

I have come to conclude that my driving skills in any game uniformly suck. They suck even more when they are assigned specific scores for quests.

Aside from that, stealing cars in-game was extremely fun and I spent pretty much my entire initial playthrough (once released from the starter mission) hopping into random vehicles, zooming over all manner of terrain, and knocking over as many pedestrians as possible until the cops finally caught up and turned me into human Swiss cheese.

My skills with JavaScript are still elementary at best, so it was a bit hard to understand all the scripting, but it's still a cute and well-made game and I intend to come back for more coding practice in the near future!

Beautiful art, heartbreaking story, though short. May's background was painfully familiar for me, and some of the scenes were tough to get through, so I'll probably leave this one alone instead of coming back to get all the achievements, which I normally do with other games. If you're ok with having your heart ripped to shreds with each playthrough, though, I would recommend this game.

Visually this is one of the most unique and beautiful games I've ever played. The developers and artists deserve the highest praise for everything from character sprites to animations to landscape textures - even if I can't read Chinese to save my life, it was so relaxing to walk through peaceful forests and bright sunflower fields, and the way they generated waterfalls and fires was divine. I've never seen this brand of graphics before and I'm in love. Sadly I couldn't progress much because of the language barrier, but if they ever come out with an English translation I'll gladly be the first to play it!

Welp, this was disappointing.

Deluge #1 was a 6/10 because of the strength of the storyline, despite the irrelevantly suggestive art and the passiveness of the MC. Deluge #2 managed to undercut what little of a premise it had, in favor of ever more well-endowed artwork of high-school girls. If the devs invested half as much time into writing reasonable plot and dialogue as they did crafting the perfect b00b - this is a visual novel still, right!? - I wouldn't dislike it so much. But here we are.

The same complaints as I had with the first installment still apply. The MC is still an idiotic spectator, given little interaction in this "interactive" preview aside from Yes/No choices that have no impact whatsoever - for instance, you're given the illusion of being able to refuse Rika's invitation and Ina's journalistic demands, then you're forced to comply anyway. Most of the story and dialogue felt like filler, and along with Abe some other characters/interactions were just fantastically stupid:
  1. We're just supposed to trust Rika now, after everything that happened in the first Deluge? Even if you don't go with her story route, she behaves in such a shady manner that the MC shouldn't be following her into underground crypts and picnicking together without a second thought. Oh wait, Abe's stupid. Understandable, have a nice day.
  2. If you're the frontrunner for a political party in a fraught and historically dangerous town, one might imagine you'd have the presence of mind to hire security, instead of wandering the streets like a lost puppy... unless you're Marisa. How she's still alive is a mystery. But her vapidly drawn eyes make her look like a shell of a human being anyways.

Which brings me, finally, to the art. Deluge #1 wasn't a romance-based game, so why should I expect any different from #2? Nope, they're still going for those fake harem girl vibes. I have a hunch the entire outing to the beach was crafted around the opportunity to show off some bikini art, that's how meaningless the arc was. What's even more hilarious, Rika's bikini-sprite in one scene looks like it was drawn by a completely different person - one who struggles with anime characters. Poorly sketched lines and lack of shading, then back to our regular sprite like nothing happened. And did I mention how soulless Marisa looks? How Bernard appears to be a carbon copy of Sigurd's character design but behaves like a royal asshat? How Peter is supposed to be a professor but is drawn like a middle-school boy?

In short, I can hope this hodgepodge of a VN is improved before its final release, but I'm not holding my breath; a clean break is for the best. One thing I'll agree on, it's a sermon for the dead - the dead brain cells that I can never get back.

Loved the overarching storyline and its complexity, as well as the different endings for each of the characters. There were just a few things that ticked me off, however, so that on a scale of 1-10 I'd give this a 6, maybe 6.5.

First - I didn't care for how the girls were occasionally sexualized in the artwork, since that just seemed to detract from the main story for me. Even though the game initially gives the impression of a DDLC romancing setup, the story doesn't play out that way so that bit felt unnecessary. In fact, there's so little need for romance here that I'd rather play as one of the girls instead.

Second major complaint (which seems common among such VNs) - the MC was ridiculously passive at times with no sense of self-preservation. If a creepy possessive church girl invites you to a creepy confession, you don't willingly accept drinks from this totally trustworthy personage, and then suddenly agree to become her accomplice in a heinous crime! I just wanted to smack him upside the head on that particular story route.

Finally, though described as an 'interactive' VN, there really wasn't much interaction aside from Yes/No type choices at the few major turning points. I've tried writing stories in RenPy before and know how hard it is to create a variety of choices and arcs, and I didn't mind spending most of the game just clicking through linear text, but for those seeking a more interactive experience they're unlikely to find it here. This is much closer to a kinetic novel than anything else, though it wasn't a dealbreaker for me.

Still, all things considered, the story was what really held my interest and I'll be checking out the sequel to see how it compares.

Hilarious and annoying at the same time! Some of my favorite things included:
  • Thinking outside the box (sometimes literally) to solve a puzzle
  • Being trolled by the Hint buttons ("You can do it!!" "Go on, git!!")
  • Trolling back by adding insults and middle fingers to my mazes
  • Firing first, asking questions later - I was jumpscared, okay!?
  • Blinding myself looking at the sun
  • Drawing gigantic Stones of Reflection (snicker)
  • Watching the developer (?) tangle with a banana peel and lose
  • And an excerpt from the greatest literary work of all time, Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon:
Imagine gravity is fractal, because light is just a wave, and gravity is just a wave, so imagine there's a big piece of glass that splits up gravity like a prism, so there's like blue gravity, and yellow gravity, and then somebody gets hit by the red gravity, and it makes them super heavy, so they have super strength, but, like, they're also really slow. And another guy gets hit by microwave gravity, so he's trying to zap everybody. And just when he's about to zap the main guy, we see a lady come out, and she turns out to be Ultraviolet Girl, and she has super speed, so she beats him. And it, like, also gave her giant cans.

10/10 would recommend. Also, I now want a glowing marker like the one in the game so I can draw on everything.

Another visually stunning game with a beautiful, relaxing soundtrack - whose language I don't understand. Really hoping an English version is in the works!!

Short and sweet game that tested my hearing acuity more than anything else, especially on the final round. I loved the design and artwork as well, just wish the end could have told me more about the history of the island and prior inhabitant(s), as well as how the MC ended up there, though some of it is already implied. I was also curious about that stone circle with the strange markings, but that was never explained. Overall a relaxing game, a nice break from my usual full-blown grind-heavy RPGs.
