One of the most anticipated games of the year, Red Dead Redemption 2 manages to redefine the open-world genre and keep your hand on the controller, despite the rather slow pace.

I admit, I was skeptical given how much hype there was around this game, but I'm glad I was wrong. The campaign lasts more than 60 hours, but you will have enough activities even after the epilogue ends.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to its predecessor, the action taking place more than 10 years before. After a failed mission led by Dutch, the gang moves east, where they fight for freedom and are constantly fighting with members of the O’Driscoll clan.

They live in the wild, where they create their own camp that you can improve through various upgrades throughout the game. Each member of the gang has to contribute money or food for the camp to survive - so I spent a lot of time hunting deer or bears to have something to bring home.

Despite the fact that the game is an open-world RPG, the world does not open to you from the beginning of the game. You will spend the first few hours trying to learn the mechanics of the game and test different actions and missions that Arthur can do in the Red Dead universe.

The first chapter serves as a kind of prologue in which you do not have so much freedom and tries to introduce you to the story. We also meet old friends from the first Red Dead Redemption: John Marston and his wife Abigail, even the leader of the gang, Dutch van der Linde, who are much younger, but we all know how their story will end.

You can go shopping in the city and literally walk among the shelves and buy your coffee or canned food to drink later. They will also recharge your life or stamina and you can carry them in your bag or store them on horseback.

Speaking of animals, your horse is the most reliable partner. The more time you spend together, the more trustworthy you become and the easier it will be to handle. Moreover, you have to take care of your horse, if you want to keep it alive. There are a lot of animals in the wild that you can hunt with either a bow or a rifle and I can't describe how fluid and natural their animation is.

The days in the Red Dead pass slowly, as it probably did at that time. I spent a whole day going fishing, or doing various household activities in the camp, such as cutting wood or taking a bath after a day of work. There are a lot of activities you can do in the Red Dead, from riding in the wild, to going for a drink in the city bar that ends in an epic fight with all the locals.

But let's move on to more serious things: side-missions. You can take part in robberies with other van der Linde members or go alone to get some money back or look for other criminals for the sheriff in town. My advice is to loot whatever comes your way: you will find various items from drinks, money or other things that will be useful to you later.

The Dead Eye system that became this series also returns in the second part. Dead Eye for the uninitiated, slows down the world around you so you can hit enemies more easily, but the ability is consumed quite quickly and does not charge automatically. You will have to consume various items in order to reload it, but to be honest, Arthur is doing very well without this ability.

Also worth mentioning are some things that I don't like very much: the interface is quite different from many other games of this kind, where you don't have all the inventory or progress in one place. It will take you some time to get used to the system and know where to look if you need certain information.

The action of the game is very cumbersome, but I don't see it as a disadvantage. You have to arm yourself with a lot of patience, and my advice is to enjoy the world around you. The landscape is diverse and never ceases to amaze me how realistic it is. Many times I thought I was watching a movie and I can only consider Red Dead an unparalleled competitor for Game of the Year.

Rockstar Games manages to deliver a game that sets new standards for the open-world genre. I can't wait for the launch of Red Dead Online, where I will be able to make my own gang of villains and cross the wild west. Until then, I continue my adventures in the wild west with my horse, because the adventure in Red Dead has just begun.

There would be quite a few more points to reach, but I hope I piqued your interest to explore on your own. I'm curious why you did other nice things in the new Red Dead, because I'm sure I haven't seen anything that this game has to offer.

Come to the farm and let's grow good times!
Developer and publisher GIANTS Software releases the most extensive farming simulator to date, with a multitude of new features such as production chains and multiplayer crossplay. The launch trailer tells the heartwarming story of a budding farmer.

Farms are getting bigger – and so is the game series

Farming Simulator 22 improves the farming experience on every level. The seasonal cycle comes with new obstacles to overcome, production chains add more depth, new ways to work in the fields bring more variety to farming, and new sounds amplify the sense of immersion.
The possibility to modify the character, as well as the new way of placing buildings, promotes freedom and creativity on the three distinct maps, inspired by the regions of the south of France, the United States or the area of the Alps mountains. All farmers will find the perfect relief for their taste and will be able to enjoy farming and forestry activities as well as animal husbandry. It will be their choice if they want to focus on the crops present in the game or raise cows, sheep, chickens, pigs, horses or even bees. Thanks to cross-platform multiplayer, it's now even easier to cooperate.

With over 400 authentically digitized vehicles and machinery from companies such as Case IH, CLAAS, Fendt, John Deere, Massey Ferguson, New Holland, Valtra and many others, the farm machinery fleet is growing this time around as well. New categories of agricultural machinery will allow farmers to take care of olive groves or vines. Grapes, olives and sorghum are the three new crop types present in the game.

Cultivated, fertilized and now published
Christian Ammann, CEO of GIANTS Software said, “This is an amazing achievement that marks an important moment in the company's work on several levels. Farming Simulator 22 is the first title we've published, it's our most ambitious title yet, and it's the result of our immense desire to bring the series' potential to fruition in the future. And it is not only an important moment, but also a milestone.

GIANTS Software has also improved the foundation behind the game. On the technical side, the new GIANTS Engine 9 comes bundled with DirectX 12, NVIDIA DLSS, texture streaming and more novelties that optimize graphics and performance on all platforms. Official modding support on PC and consoles is also guaranteed. As with previous releases, the developers will test creator-made content and publish it to be accessed directly from the ModHub section of the game.

Farming Simulator 22 is now available in Romania through retail partners Netzah Game with recommended prices starting from 199.90 RON for the PC version and 249.90 RON for consoles. Also, all versions sold in Romania through official distribution channels also include localization in Romanian on the product box and in the game.

Grand Theft Auto V is not only a preposterously enjoyable video game, but also an intelligent and sharp-tongued satire of contemporary America. It represents a refinement of everything that GTA IV brought to the table five years ago. It’s technically more accomplished in every conceivable way, but it’s also tremendously ambitious in its own right. No other world in video games comes close to this in size or scope, and there is sharp intelligence behind its sense of humour and gift for mayhem. It tells a compelling, unpredictable, and provocative story without ever letting it get in the way of your own self-directed adventures through San Andreas. It is one of the very best video games ever made. Note: This review exclusively covers the single-player portion of Grand Theft Auto V, since it launched without any multiplayer mode.

For me, Grand Theft Auto V’s extraordinary scope is summed up in two favourite moments. One is from a mid-game mission in which I flew a plane into another plane, fought the crew, hijacked the thing, and then parachuted out and watched it crash into the sea to escape death at the hands of incoming military fighter jets. Another time, whilst driving around in an off-road buggy, I got distracted by something that looked like a path up one of the San Andreas mountains. Turns out it was a path, and I spent 15 minutes following to the summit, where I nearly ran over a group of hikers. “Typical!” one of them yelled at me, as if he nearly gets run over by a rogue ATV on top of a mountain every time he goes on a hike.

I could go on like this for ages. GTA V has an abundance of such moments, big and small, that make San Andreas – the city of Los Santos and its surrounding areas – feel like a living world where anything can happen. It both gives you tremendous freedom to explore an astonishingly well-realised world and tells a story that’s gripping, thrilling, and darkly comic. It is a leap forward in narrative sophistication for the series, and there’s no mechanical element of the gameplay that hasn’t been improved over Grand Theft Auto IV. It’s immediately noticeable that the cover system is more reliable and the auto-aim less touchy. The cars handle less like their tires are made of butter and stick better to the road, though their exaggerated handling still leaves plenty of room for spectacular wipeouts. And at long last, Rockstar has finally slain one of its most persistent demons, mission checkpointing, ensuring that you never have to do a long, tedious drive six times when you repeatedly fail a mission ever again.

Grand Theft Auto V’s plot happily operates at the boundaries of plausibility, sending you out to ride dirt bikes along the top of trains, hijack military aircraft, and engage in absurd shootouts with scores of policemen, but its three main characters are what keep it relatable even at its most extreme. The well-written and acted interplay between them provides the biggest laughs and most affecting moments, and the way that their relationships with one another developed and my opinion of them changed throughout the story gave the narrative its power. They feel like people – albeit extraordinarily f***ed-up people.

The missions flit between their individual stories and an overarching plotline that involves all three, and it’s a credit to GTA V’s versatility and universal quality that each character has his share of standout missions. As their arcs developed I felt very differently about each of them at different times – they’re not entirely the archetypes that they seem to be.

The actual act of switching between them also provides a window into their individual lives and habits, fleshing out their personalities in a way that feels natural and novel. Pick a character and the camera zooms out over the San Andreas map, closing back in on wherever they happen to be. Michael might be at home watching TV when you drop in on him, or speeding along the motorway blasting ‘80s hits, or having a cigarette at the golf club; Franklin might be walking out of a strip club, munching a bag of snacks at home, or arguing with his ex-girlfriend; there’s a good chance that Trevor could be passed out half naked on a beach surrounded by dead bodies or, on one memorable occasion, drunk in a stolen police helicopter.

It’s the heists – multi-stage, huge-scale events that serve as the story’s climactic peaks – that show Grand Theft Auto V at its most ambitious and accomplished. Usually there’s a choice between a more involved, stealthier option that will (hopefully) attract less heat, and an all-out option that will be less tense but more explosively chaotic – and what crew to take along with you on the job. All of GTA V’s missions are replayable at any time, letting you relive favourite moments or try out another approach. They also have optional objectives in the vein of Assassin’s Creed’s synchronisation challenges, but crucially, these are invisible the first time you play a mission.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has taken the military-sim gameplay popularized by games like ARMA and DayZ, boiled it down to its most exciting parts, and streamlined it into quick and accessible rounds of pure, hassle-free, survival-based action. Even though each game starts the same way, its remarkable ability to feel like a new, tense adventure each and every round has kept me coming back for hours on end.

The tension mounts during the descent as you get a good look at the swarm of players in your vicinity, but things really pick up the moment you hit the ground, as everybody (no matter where you land) scrambles for weapons and gear, and the killing kicks off right from the get-go. Item distribution is partially randomized, and learning the spots on the maps that are likely to spawn military-grade weapons and attachments is a good, early strategy to work out on your own, with a team of up to four, or using the many fan-made resources that already exist thanks to PUBG’s hearty run in Early Access. You can’t count on finding a good gun early to keep you safe, but unlike similar games like DayZ, where you could potentially go long, tedious stretches without finding a weapon, there’s bound to be something worth picking up no matter where you drop. Backpacks for holding more items, a handful of protective gear like helmets and police vests, medical supplies, melee weapons, and a good mix of firearms are in good supply.

But no matter what gear you find, PUBG excels at creating a reliable and streamlined space for your adventure to play out while also allowing for a thrilling level of unpredictability. It isn’t out of the ordinary for someone with only a pistol to take down someone with a fully loaded SCAR-L assault rifle, since good gear is only half the battle — the other half is wit.
As players outsmart each other in deadly games of cat and mouse, those still standing are forced into ever-closer proximity within the confines of a deadly, shrinking force-field until just one player or team is left alive. Victory (accompanied by the coveted “Winner, winner, chicken dinner!” screen) is an exhilarating reward, matched only by the suspense that emerges from the battle to achieve it. But even if you die early, jumping into a new game is always quick and easy.

The deadly, moving force-field that contains the arena and occasional airstrikes marked with red on the minimap add a consistent sense of purpose that drives you toward conflict, and with it, an exciting set of options. You might want to prioritize reaching the center of the circle to make the next incremental reduction in size of the survivable area easier to deal with; move slowly along the borders to pick off stragglers as they rush into the open to avoid the oncoming doom; or even hide in a building until you absolutely have to move, letting everyone else kill each other so you don’t have to. Hopping into a vehicle, like the speedy but vulnerable motorbike and buggy, the sturdy closed-top UAZ, or the slow-but-durable van — among others — is a quick, fun, and conspicuous way to cover a lot of ground, and can result in some hilarious and explosive encounters. Either way, you’re encouraged to stay on the move, but still have a set of options that lets you pick your pace. An aggressive approach is just as viable as a cautious defense, and the practicality of both playstyles is refreshingly liberating, bringing new sets of challenges that are just as fun to plan around and tackle as the next.

The incentives to stay on the move no matter your chosen pace forces ever more dangerous encounters with increasingly skilled (or lucky) survivors, condensing the action and ending a match after around 20 minutes, before it can get bogged down by campers or other distractions. Action isn’t hard to find if you’re looking for it, and impossible to avoid for long when you’re not, but PUBG manages to put enough space between encounters to keep those quiet, tense moments of cautious exploration intact.

The two large maps aren't the best-looking environments in gaming, but they do provide much-needed variety on the battlefield. Both the forested island of Erangel and the sunny desert of Miramar boast an assortment of small towns, large, dense cityscapes, and rural industrial zones ripe with loot. There are some parallels between maps so as not to restrict your options when you’re dropped randomly into either one (the server picks for you). For instance, the small military base on an island off the coast of Erangel sees its match in Miramar’s remote military camp, for the high-risk players looking to compete for high-level equipment right off the bat.

You start as a low-skilled, truckless lorry jockey, forced to take work from established haulage companies. Slowly (or rapidly if you go to a bank) you amass the funds to buy your first rig and rent your first yard. Then the fun really begins. Contract perusing, truck pimping, skill upgrading, driver hiring... this is Eddie Stobart: The Game in all but name.

Spending 90 minutes ferrying a tank of propane from Sheffield to Prague could (should?) be tedious. The fact that it isn't is largely down to good-if-not-quite-OMSI-standard physics, and varied road layouts and scenery. Periods of smooth, almost soporific motorway motoring nestle between passages of edgier wheelwork. One minute you're cruising along contemplating the sunset over the central reservation, the next you're on a rain-lashed country road at night, waiting for the right moment to pass a painfully slow pantechnicon. Tiredness can't kill in ETS2, but it can leave you jack-knifed in a ditch, feeling awful with a substantial repair bill to pay.

The only time when the game itself loses concentration is when attempting to evoke certain regions and sounds. The further you get from central Europe the less convincing the landscapes become. No one seems to have told SCS's countryside crafters that rural Britain features long green things called hedges. Cities are often depicted with the shortest of visual shorthand – a few warehouses, the odd landmark if you're lucky. Don't expect to see a favourite local roundabout, slip-road, or speed camera in this highly-recommended HGV-driver RPG.

There's satisfaction in exploring new routes, seeing new golden been-there-done-that squiggles appearing on the in-game map, but it tends to be the promise of cold, hard cash that gets you out of bed in the morning. Like Farming Simulator, ETS2 has a simple yet resonant economic sandbox at its centre.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 is that rare thing, a strong sim tethered to a strong game. Where other vehicle-obsessed devs seem to take player motivation for granted, Czech studio SCS understand that a pleasingly modelled steed needs a pleasingly modelled environment to shine.

On this occasion that environment is a swathe of Europe stretching from Plymouth in the west to Wroclaw in the east, from Aberdeen in the north to Milan in the South. The tangle of motorways and major roads is stylised and condensed, but feels massive. After a splendid week of non-stop trucking the stats screen tells me I've still only seen 50% of it.
