This game was my childhood, along with the wacky mobile port they made and released as "Transport Tycoon". Like the games prior, it really was coded in assembly, which makes it run fast but it's incredibly unstable on even relatively new machines. An open-source remake exists, called OpenLoco, which like OpenTTD runs much better but it's still a WIP so you need to buy this game for it to work.

This is the kind of transport company game I wished was available as a kid. The modding community is also still pretty active almost 5 years in, and some of the stuff they've made pushes quite a bit further beyond the already impressive features of the base game. I haven't really tried the new features of the last major update, but they look cool.

My first ever purchase on Steam, almost ten years ago as I write this. It's still one of my favorites, but funnily enough I've yet to successfully send anything to another planet, not even space probes like those of real life.
Everyone wants to conquer the stars, but not everyone wants to really sit down and solve a case of the three body problem.

Early Access Review
Love this game. It reminds me of the cult classic movie Crash (1996)

Rolling Line, like a growing number of games these days, understands the futility of endlessly chasing photorealistic graphics, and opts for a simpler art style to be more whimsical and improve performance. But while so many games that take this path end up with something nowhere near being a simulator, Rolling Line still accurately models specific locomotives with a keen eye to various details non-railfans easily miss. Like the low-fidelity model trains of a local hobby store, they're not stunningly accurate but they get the right impression across.

I bought this game a few years ago because I thought it'd make for a fun diversion from the flight games I normally played.

I am no longer capable of playing normal flight simulators. 10/10

I've seen a lot of jumpscares over the years, and I gotta say absolutely none of them hit me like, well, the blunt force trauma of a car coming at me from a narrow alleyway
