In retrospect, the mere addition of more charactors and an actually pure sandbox experience like those featured in vanilla AoP2, would make a great DLC, and change my opinion entirely...
...ok maybe not. Those damn rats lol.
The sandbox game starts after you return from Guadeloupe and talk to the brother. You could go back to Guadeloupe to get some story quests at that point, or just do whatever you want. I didn't do the story quests. After Jan 1 you have the main story quests.
Im interested in your thoughts comparing open play vs POTC build mod's. I might put some more time into the game if I was mistaken.
I'd recommend Pirates of the Caribbean with the Community Build Mod as a better game, but good luck finding a copy anywhere. I haven't tried AoP.
There's plenty of forum support for this game, and the various guides should help.
Then you have the game itself. While I adore the series, the mechanics are extremely fiddly and micro-intensive. While they make you feel like a captain of a ship, they add to the already steep learning cliff.
While YOU may find the game enjoyable (I'm assuming you are retired, unless I read your profile wrong.) I can't in good conscience recommend this game to my fellow working class men who are putting in 60+ hour weeks in the current job environment. :)
