A 90s cult classic with a lot of splatter that could have been an excellent horror b-movie. Beautiful and gory in all it's campy glory. Reminiscent of Phantasmagoria, in a more...Evil Dead kind of way.

Featuring delightfully absurd dialogues that are sometimes unexpectedly insightful, a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy ending and buckets of black, morbid humor. If you have even the slightest taste for horror you should definitelly check this old gem.

I love old games like this one. At the time the different genres of gaming weren't so clear-cut as they are today. Not having the imperative to be separated in perfect little boxes in order to identify a game as "adventure", "action" etc, resulted in games like Harvester. A game with heavy adventure elements, timed events, combats, different weapons you can actually aim and use, ammo to manage and of course, many deaths.

There is a weird exhilarating sense of freedom in that lack of genre labeling in gameplay. You can't follow the patterns modern adventure games use, so even simple things may have an unexpected aspect to them. This kind of freedom in a game's design makes it more interesting -and of course, at times, harder to beat.*

Unfortunately Harvester also carries with it the sexist tropes of the era, so if you can't stomach good old sexism, a touch of homophobia, gratuitous sex scenes, ladies in lingerie and violence against women then you should probably choose another game. I was able to enjoy it despite of this, but I can't say that this will be the case for everyone.

*But, thankfully, in case you get stuck, it has one of the most beloved "features" of old games: cheat codes. N00b players everywhere, REJOICE!

hey, Cpt Moist panties were your grades too shitty to get into college and now you have a deep hatred for college students or something? I don't get your rudeness for people who are trying to recieve higher level education. You might want to get off DOTA 2 and apply to school, someday. Just food for thought, you pretentious fucking prick.

But again, you came here to tell me how wrong I am about trigger warnings when I wrote nothing about that. I wrote them as plain negatives about the game. If they also serve as trigger warnings, well then I'm glad I did something right, even if it was without me realising it.

Also I don't really get this modern anti-warnings and anti-feminist logic at all. Most warnings are genres that have been around for decades (blacksploitatiton, revenge porn, splatter etc), I find it funny that when we frame our allready existing patterns of speech in a new way that actually tries to be more considerate and care for victims of various forms of violence, people like you sprout up and say "this is like pampering babies and unnecessary", and maybe for you it is. But you're not every person nor do you represent us adults as a group. Part of being a grown up is recognizing that people have different experiences and different needs and vulnerabiities and that's ok. Not everything has to cater to your needs only, and I really don't get all the fuss over things like trigger warnings, when they're something that does not even affect those who don't need them.

Hey you're the one who came here for a conversation, if you think you're waisting your time you're free to leave anytime you want.

Yes adults need warnings, here you are talking with an adult who tells you so. That should be enough.

and yes I know the irony in saying 'children or college students' as if there is any difference anymore.

Jesus that's not even how bigot is used in the modern political context

And no, adults never need warnings. Because they are adults, and they acknowledge that the world doesn't cater to their specific circumstances. Expecting so is infantile, selfish, self-centered, and college level. I treat adults as adults, not as children or college students that require coddling from mother and professors.

You're obviously never going to change your opinion so we're both wasting time here.

Yeah you kinda are a bigot if you go around trying to put down other people as too young to know any better just because you dissagree with them.

Trigger warnings have been around for decades in all sorts of mediums and are really helpful for those who need them and really insignificant for those who don't. Complaining about them is really selfish and inconsiderate. Not all people have the same experiences, sometimes adults need warnings too.

Bottom line though, you're the one talking about trigger warnings. I'm just talking about a game I loved, that had many shitty parts. If you have a problem with that...oh well.

The assumption that I'm a bigot is cute.

I'm just saying that if we live in a society where we need trigger warnings instead of treating adults like adults and letting them know that *gasp* not everything conforms to their tastes is better than furthering the prolonged adolescence most adult men experience.

It's true, I should have elaborated more on the overt misogyny and homophobia of some of the scenes but unfortunatelly steam is filled with bigoted fellas like yourself that can't even handle a loving critique.
Cpt. Moist Panties 15 Oct, 2015 @ 4:23pm
That bit about sexist tropes 'of that era' was completely unnecessary. If you're too young to see things that might offend you and not handle it like an adult then your parents probably don't want you playing this since youre obviously a child
