Mafia II: Definitive Edition.
Reviewing (skip to whatever interests you most):
1) Similarity with GTA-series.
2) Missions.
3) Cars.
4) Police.
5) Bugs.

1) GTA?
Someone, who never played Mafia series before (me!), may think it's like a GTA game.
And he'll be 50% wrong.
There's 3rd person view, driving involved and various cars available, plus missions where you shoot enemies and escape from police. That's about all similarities with GTA.

Free roaming is limited: you play chapters, each containing 1-2 missions. You want to explore - explore during the missions.
You've completed a mission? Next chapter starts. Plus the only time game saves - once a mission starts, cannot save up manually (wtf :D )
However, there's not much to explore - the city is small and not used up to its potential.
While in GTA games you end up fighting in multiple locations, in Mafia II you repeat the same route: safe home - diner - thug factory.

A character only carries two weapons and any food - any - sandwich or a drink, will replenish all of his health. No need to worry about becoming chubby as in SA. ;)

The only collectibles you may care about: playboy magazines. And they must be picked up during missions.
No, there is no mini-games like rampage, cannot earn money in taxi, ambulance or catching criminal. Forget it.

2) Missions.
About missions. I can only name few memorable:
a) dressing up as window cleaners and blowing up the meeting window from outside,
b) delivering a car with broken breaks from the top of a hill
c) aaand digging up a grave while drunk.

All missions are quite serious, so tiny-little room left for jokes (there are some, but only a few).

Main game is short. But its 3 DLCs (each!) just about a little shorter than the base game, minus videos before/after a mission.
Heavily love two expansions about Mr. Clean (lol), bold guy citing his kills and drifitng around.

DLCs somehow stand out, they played slightly differently, involve new landscapes (snow lakes, more port fights).

Two things I loved a lot: cars (driving) and police.
3) Driving.
Vehicles! Somehow simple, but authentic physics and damage behaviour. You damaged your ride too bad?
It will smoke and stall, get out and fix an engine. ... you may also run-out of fuel.
You can also customize you license plate and colour the whole car.
When drive away with snow - it will gradually melt. But no shooting from a car. Errr...

4) Cops!
They will chase you by two factors:
a) if witnessed committing a crime in cloth, they run after until you change it.
b) If spotted stealing a car, driving one in a wanted outfit - its license plate instantly becomes wanted, be sure to change few numbers in a garage.
The higher wanted level (4 stars max), the quicker they will spot you in a car in a wanted cloth.
Funny enough, you can hide in covers, behind cars and they lose interest:

Oh, police also wants to fine you after a collision or speeding. The later somewhat inconsistent: driving above limits in a city is fine, driving within max on a motorway - is not. Eh?

5) Optimization.
Overall - very smooth and runs perfectly. Nothing game-breaking. Yay!
However, experienced minor graphical glitches: NPCs walking through textures, blurry faced, or.. this thing D:

And yes, I still would recommend Mafia II Definitive Edition. ;)
