Race of Life - Act 1 is a RenPy adventure visual novel.

You are a college instructor working on your PhD. You went through a bitter divorce a couple of years ago. You daughter stays with her mother. You are currently seeing another professor at the university, you want to keep it casual, but she seems to have other ideas.

You start of by naming your character, Jake is the default. Miller is your last name. You are researching a new type of battery.

You can play either pursuing one woman or all of the women. With the right answer you can be with the woman you want, even if you are pursuing the other women. There is an event, going to the ball, that you can invite one of four women. This limits which scene you will see, so I advise saving at the choice screen because you'll want to replay with the other options. I play selecting the different choices and frequently the text is the same, or has minor differences, after you select an option. So, if you don't spend time with a woman the game picks up right after the scene with little to no difference.

There is a car racing mini game. I highly advise saving at the start of any race. It isn't difficult, but not explained well. You need to shift gears at the appropriate time. Unfortunately the location of the gear numbers switch every time. So, you have to first find the gear you want to shift into and then select it at the appropriate time, a green arrow will appear on the tachometer. If you've ever driven a stick you'll know that the layout of the gears is always the same and muscle memory is a huge part of driving, so the moving of the gear numbers really threw me off initially. There are also a few races where you have to make selections on what to do, inside or outside lane for example, I don't know how much this affects the race.

Currently all of the scenes are with the older women. The college girls will flash and grind on you, but that's as far as it goes, other than one of the extra stories. There are currently 11 scenes and two "extra" scenes.

The English is very good and I didn't notice misspellings or grammar issues.

There are two Galleries. The Gallery option will allow you to replay the scenes you have viewed in the game, you can also star images for stills. The Extra Gallery contains two additional stories with characters who are in the game, but the stories aren't actually in the game.

Put this one on your wish list. The art is extraordinary. The story is solid.
