Early Access Review
Played it 4 hours straight. My butt is hurting already.

I played the original mod version and absolutely loved it. Now, about two years later, it got early access and I bought it immediately, without hesitating. The cool thing about this game is that, even though it is still missing the Xen part, the first part is as beautiful it can get. Extremely polished, bugs are rare and it just looks gorgeous.

If you played the original Half Life, you might feel like I do about it: dislike it. Not in the way that "oh no, it's too old", no, the way it plays is just awful. Clunky. With Black Mesa, they have made the combat feel alive, the enemies work better and even redesigned most levels! They still have managed to keep the game close to the roots of Half Life, with fast paced puzzling and platforming.

This game is a total remake of Half Life, both graphically and mechanically. If you have played the original series, then this is going to be something to check out. You'll love it. If, for some weird reason you haven't, well then it is just the time to do it! Black Mesa is about the first game, so you can hop on without worries of missing a part of the story. There is also a free version that you can play, if you don't feel like buying this (apparently the free mod isn't available anymore). To be warned though, the mod is made with older SDK and there are also new models and such in the retail version. And a work-in-progress multiplayer deathmatch that needs a bit of balancing and other work too. Please concider buying the steam version though, as it supports the dev team and you get more out of the experience.
