Garry's Mod is a modification to first-person shooter Half-Life 2. This is a physical "sandbox" that allows the player to manipulate objects and experiment with physics, realism, which provides engine Source. This modification was designed to demonstrate the vast capabilities engine Source, which restricts the freedom of the players only by their own imagination.

For the functioning of the Garry's Mod version 10 and up to 12) need at least one more game on the Source engine. Objects and characters Half-Life 2 is available with the purchase of any of them, as included in the main distribution of the Source engine. Accordingly, other games allow you to use Garry's Mod content. Garry's Mod 13 already included Half-Life 2, so you just need to get the game.

29 Jul 2009 officially announced the achievements for Garry's Mod, 26 August, they were added after the next update.

In early September 2011 Garry Newman has announced the biggest upgrade. In the 13th global release introduced support for Steam workshop, redesigned menus and many other changes, mostly related to change the functionality of the Lua engine.
