It was okay, definitely scary like the first game, but just not as consistently. Giving it a positive review mainly because I admire the effort and I truly think The Chinese Room are fantastic developers.

I was really enjoying it for the first 2 hours, but as the story went on it ended up being fairly convoluted and the scares became sparse. It had its moments in the latter half but, they were very few and far between. I feel its mixed reception is deserved, not just as a follow up to the first game but as a game in general. There was certainly a good story buried in here but everything presented was just so vague and hard to follow, the plot should have been much simpler or told in a more straightforward manner.

To clarify, I enjoy walking simulators, but the second half of the game felt like a slog at times because of how little interaction there was. However, the game is very short (3-4 hours) so it isn't too bad.

The art style and soundtrack are amazing, probably the main thing this game does better than the first. Sound design is great. The voice acting is simply phenomenal.

A few minor gripes I had with the game is that it runs like ♥♥♥♥ on modern hardware, crashes randomly during loading screens, and also has MAJOR fps drops. The crashing typically wouldn't bother me but this game has no autosaves so if it crashes during the loading between the previous level and the next, you have to play the level all over again. It sucks, and happened to me 3 times.

Bugs aside, this is a decent horror game but could have been so much more.
