I will say this not for those who are easily frustrated.

This has been one of my most favorite time sinks when it comes to games for the last 2 years. It's punishing and unforgiving, making for stress inducing encounters that feel so rewarding when you overcome them. The lovecraftian horror and the gameplay mechanic of stress really immerses you into the theme.

The other things I love:
  • Turn based fighting, where the animations for a hit give off a sense of precision and weight
  • Extensive decision making when it comes to procuring a strategy for the best team to complete (hopefully) a quest
  • Making the level mechanic for a hero their resolve to dwelve into more horrifying quests
  • Unique artstyle that will age well with time

Not only is the base game good, but the DLC introduces new trinkets (equips), monsters, and an area to explore which will challenge you once the game becomes uninteresting.

If you would like a review in a video format, I would suggest (although a bit dated) Totalbiscuits WTF is... Darkest Dungeon: https://youtu.be/J-spazTn-4U
