Xen is beautiful. Absolutely mindblowing, whatever time it took them to make it.

I've completed the original Black Mesa mod back in 2012. It was good, but it really puzzled me that Xen was not there. After all, it wasn't that long - you barely experience og HL Xen and not that it was really decent for that matter. Guess for the same reason I didn't really care it wasn't in Black Mesa back then.

A few years forward, in 2016 I stumble upon early access Black Mesa with a promise of having Xen soon, and it being majorly expanded, something they wanted to do all along, but lacked resources and man power to do originally. I'm game, given it doesn't even cost much. Months and years pass by, as I'm patiently moving Black Mesa further along my backlog of unplayed games - not really bothered by delays. I'm building my appetite for a future HL replay, readying my anticipation for what Xen has to offer.

Comes along open beta with a few Xen levels, not really interested in incomplete journey. I'm here for a full ride.

It finally happens. The amount of polishment Crowbar team put into remake of original levels is absurd. Its a perfect 2k20 HL game. Its insane. Its naked joy.

Then I enter Xen. I'm blown out, speechless, shedding a tear.
Thanks.

A decent interactive drama game (in disguise) burdened by boringness of cumbersome combat system and unnecessary rpg elements.

Giving credit where its due: this game features a very compelling and well told story: grim plot featuring very charismatic protagonists seamlessly interweaved into GoT universe, being true to its spirit. The writing is solid and is on par or above of writing of TV series (*cough S8 cough*). There's that.

And then, there's trash-tier attempt to attach rpg/combat system to it. You're not getting anything worthwhile here. I'd advise you to not bother, simply refrain to cheats if you're that interested in story or just ignore this title if you don't want to.

Not really in the mood to write down a thorough review here, not really necessary and you can read all other reviews that go in detail anyway. So gonna be brief:

KCD is not a fantasy RPG, rather a historical one, which attempts and succeeds at capturing the slice of midieval life of XIV-XV century. Its very accurate at it and given you're even mildly interested in history you're going to have a lot of fun learning and exploring the story.

Visuals are top notch, gameplay has it bits of tediousness and challenges, but it has to in order to capture the same tediousness and challenges of midieval life. There are a couple of technical glitches, but none that are really severe (unlike on a launch), so the game has been patched well.

After finishing Prey, Mooncrash was #1 on my waitlist of upcoming games... only to become the DLC I was not going to buy or play, because closer to release it became apparent that Mooncrash wasn't Prey. I hated it for this, because it totally spit on my expectations. Much like with Dishonored series feature DLCs I've expected yet another Prey game (albeit shorter).

Mooncrash is not that kind of DLC. Although it reuses assets, bits of story and gameplay of Prey, its nowhere close to being what I orignally wanted and I hated the game for it.

What made me return to Mooncrash? Steam sale, an attractive price - and I just checked the reviews, to my surprise finding them mostly positive. And since my mentioned disgust for the game had mostly passed I decided to give Mooncrash an unbiased spin.

Still would vastly prefer Mooncrash to be yet another episode of original game, but I've came to accept that it has a right to exist. I don't really like this rogue-like concept of permanent backtracking, infinite deaths, reviving enemies, no ability to save, etc - not my cup of tea. Yet, this is innovative enough to respect and some would probably love general idea of Mooncrash, I can see that.

The game is both very hard and very easy. Was very hard for me to accept that kind of gameplay (dying sucks, but its integral part of the game), easy enough when you finally get grasp of it and just start cruising through like its a speed-run. Again, not something I'm really interested in on a grand scale. There is some merit in that Mooncrash reruns are randomized, but you kinda stop noticing it once things begin to repeat - its all the same and gets tedious.

Finished Mooncrash mostly because it expands on Prey storyline and I loved it so much that I accepted it being wrapped in something that feds me up too quick.

Ask yourself if you're up to a concept of multiple reruns with slightly different takes on everchanging map OR if you really liked Prey and if either answer is 'yes', Mooncrash is worth trying. Some chances that both answers are 'yes' and you will absolutely love it.

Good story and setting plagued by visual, control and quest glitches, culminating in a game breaking quest bug leaving me unable to finish the game right before the end with no option other than to erase the playthrough (and probably get the same bug again in case I retry). No, thanks, having none of that.

Had to refrain to Youtube playthrough to even see how it ends - what an absolute rip off for an avid gamer, robbing me of a game completion, achievements and experience of a plot climax.

Note: played on Vive, well, tried to. First game was at least finishable.

Probably the most hardcore experience you can get out of your VR headset.

Wanto make it out of shattered space station? You're in for a tough zero gravity ride, equipped with uncomfortable space suite, difficult controls (even on arcade mode) and then there are even enemies to boot you, save for all dangers that already await you in open space.

And prepare your stomach - this is that kind of VR game. Still an unforgettable experience. Who told you being an astronaut was an easy job?

I regret buying this on '50% off' sale. Mind you, the actual shooting/gameplay and graphics are top notch. The story, on other hand...

How can you even express it? A C-level trash action movie would give this story a solid handicap. Couldn't bear watching through some cutscenes at all and there are too many of them. Imagine a trash action movie: lots of shooting, bullet-proof hero, typical stupid evil mastermind villain - that kind of movie, with corresponding tropes and all kinds of bitter taste cliches. Add some ridiculous 'anti-science' fiction on top of that. Stir it with massive amounts of absurdly low level sjw propaganda (on a side note: I'm fairly progressive human being, games and movies totally can and often should feature problems of equality/racism/sexuality etc - just have it in a decent, bearable, not totally overblown and overridiculed way, please). Append some unnecessary unclear-what-are-they-there-for scenes and side story lines to increase screen time. Turn some characters into freaking out pyschos along the way, pretend like you're totally dramatic and dead serious about what's happening and here you have it - Wolfenstein II: The New Collossus.

Avoid.

Outcast - Second Contact is a remastered version of a 1999 masterpiece game.

20 years is an epoch in game development timeline. Nowdays game looks dated on many levels:
* Certain lack of gameplay depth
* Somewhat simplistic story and not a lot of side-content
* Very basic character development
* Glitchy unnatural animations
* Lacunas in voice acting

The masterpiece is still there, though. Game has things to make up for its weaknesses. Well, two mainly:
* Strength of its worlds genesis and characters: you just believe in it. Between visuals (all new and shiny, making it look decent in 2019) and fragmentary story inserts game is very immersive, despite not offering a lot on any other front.
* Orchestral music score. Still as touching and profound as it ever was.

Enjoyed every moment of my twenty years later re-walkthrough. Worth it, even If you know nothing about original game.

What a little gem! A hack'n'slash gameplay with minor RPG elements tacked onto narrative of endless (well almost) choices. Pleasant graphics, superb story with hints of humor here and there.

I didn't finish TW1 until recently (it was that bad, totally unbearable). I played through TW2 with a delight on a launch, and just replayed the game again in HD version. So its the first comparison that comes to mind: how did the devs managed to improve on what they've already had and the result is a resounding success. If you compare it with the better known and successful rpg games/series such as Witcher / The Elder Scrolls etc, you're not looking for a real contender. The game is a tad below that level, but still is enjoyable.

* Half open world (actually split into two islands, with some parts unavailable until story progresses).
* Decent progression and leveling system.
* A lot of quests, both mainstory and side.
* Decent graphics and sound, even better in HD edition than originally.
* A good story.

On other hand, there're some things to critisize. Animations, albeit being miles ahead of TW1 are still somewhat clunky. Interface and controls are also clunky, looting dead bodies gets really tedious. 95% of the content are in Chapters 1 & 2, so why are there even Chapters 3 & 4?

Nothing to say about multiplayer or multiplayers DLCs: didn't try, not interested. For single players: Pirates DLC is more or less fine, Call of the Tenebrae is meh.
