The game in it's current state is so far beyond even the wild claims they made about what the game was supposed to launch as. It's 8 years after launch, and 31 updates have been released for free.

At launch - and for a few years after - the game was just bad, and being so far from what they promised made it feel even worse. Now, however, this game is great. Nearly every update has added some new significant activity to do in the game - and there were a lot of updates.

There's a ton of stuff to do in this game, the only problem is that the game itself doesn't give you any huge motivation to do any one of those things. You have to find a reason to build up your settlement, hunt for cool ships, build a new base, catalog planets, build a dirtbike race track, mod your dirtbike until it can break the sound barrier, find god, escape the matrix, create the matrix but inside the matrix you're already in, commit war crimes, commit ecoterrorism, ...

All of these are real things you can actually do in the game. It's a very "wide" game, there are a ton of different activities. Some are fun, some are boring, some are very deep, some are very shallow. Like I said, you have to create your own reason to do anything in this game. There are "main story quests" which introduce you to a lot of the things in the game, but those serve more as a tutorial/progression system.

Game is good. There's a reason I keep coming back to it 8 years later.
