A terribly underrated game. For the only reason that it was overlooked by so many people. This game came out shortly before Zelda: Twilight Princess, and I feel that is the reason why it ended up ignored. If you love Zelda and oldschool RPG/adventure/fantasy games, this is one of the last gems of this genre. Everything about it feel so inspired and made with an incredible love for detail and content.

From beginning to end, the lore is strong in Okami. This is a game that rewards gamers who enjoy the story and immersion and take their time. This is definitely not for those who only rush play for completion, as you will miss half of the game and its intended purpose by skipping cutscenes.

Content in this game is vast. Even back in the PS2 era, I was not expecting much from it, but it surprised me how massive this game is. Just when you think it's almost over, the game is nowhere near half way through. Added to this all the secrets, collectibles a-la Zelda like fishing, treasure hunting and all sorts of things, you will be spending nearly 80+ hours on this thing. Replay value is good, as you might not be able to collect everything, learn every move or upgrade all your gear on your first game. The game offers a Game+, with all your gear, plus many cool bonuses and skins that will make you want to play it again.

As for story, Okami is very rich in Japanese folklore, with its own twists. Also, a few Capcom eastereggs and light-hearted comedy. It is also a very touching game. This game is infamous for making people cry, and if you have the slightest ounce of humanity in you, trust me, you will weep like a girl. It's a truly beautiful experience that often is too vast to explain in a couple of paragraphs. You have to play it in order to experience what Okami is really about. There will be a life before and after Okami. It's more than just a game. A true underrated gaming masterpiece that will go into history as one of the most beautiful games ever made.

That's not to say there are negatives. Once of them being that the game is extremely easy. Even for someone like me who rather take on challenge in the real world, and a relaxing and immersive ride in videogames, I found this to be tremendously forgiving for its own good. Ammy takes very little damage, vs the amount of damage she makes. And that if they even manage to hit you, as she is a very swift wolf, helped by the very intuitive and nimble control movements. With time this gets worst, as you keep on increasing your already powerful health bar, plus getting weapons which at one point are a one-hit for most enemies. You also have many buff items, secondary powers, three types of revives... You're pretty much invincible. I've played this game hundreds of hours in the PS2 and PS3 version and I have never died once. At certain point of the game, you end up nerfing yourself, by using lesser weapons in order to get some fun from battles. But that is pretty much it.

Controls are okay, but they do make you miss the PS2's pressure-sensitive buttons. The stick responds well though, and drawing with your tail is rather easy.

Graphics are what sets this game apart. Now with higher resolution options, this game is more beautiful than before. The only downside is that the game is locked permanently at 30fps. It does not really hinder the experience, but you would expect at least a 60fps option, as the menus do run at this framerate.

All in all, a gem. Thank you Capcom for letting us who have moved on from consoles to enjoy this game once more. Can't wait to cry in the credits again.

ALSO! You can bark at will, dig holes, pee and poop! The authentic doggo simulator!
