Crosscode simulates the interpersonal experience of playing a classic MMORPG without needing an internet connection at all, as well as having one of the most fun and fast paced ARPG combat systems in recent times. crosscode is somewhat of a jack of all trades, having great story, and combat. so lets talk about those.

STORY
Crosscode takes place in a very interesting setting, in the future where VR technology is so advanced that its practically the same as being inside the game, you are a player of a popular VR MMORPG: crossworlds. Because of this setting, crosscode is able to take a very interesting approach to storytelling. all of the characters in crosscode are people who are playing crossworlds alongside of you. characters comment on the in game story of crossworlds as any player of video games does, and many characters are veteran players that are max level when you start playing. what im trying to say is: the story of crosscode is much more personal, not only is it very easy to relate to the characters because of how they are playing a game just like you are, but also the story is almost completely character focused.

COMBAT
the combat of crosscode shows its depth right from the start during the tutorial. you have 4 main moves: a melee swipe that does a spinning AOE combo after 3 hits, a ranged ball attack that i'll cover more later, a dash with I frames, and a block that can be timed to execute a parry. one of the most interesting systems here is the ranged attack. the ranged attack can be fired quickly or charged up to shoot a more powerful, bouncing attack that can be used for solving puzzles. the accuracy of your shots is displayed by a cone that shows up origionating from your character, as you might expect the rapid shots are very inaccurate while the charged ones are very accurate. but if you charge up a shot your accuracy cone stays locked at the high accurace mode, so you can spam fast attacks with the accuracy of a charged shot. later in the game you unlock elemental damage types, each of which has different attack styles and enemies that they are effective aginst.

Overall crosscode perfectly mixes the 2 main aspect of games into a final product that is an enjoyable experience the whole way through.
