An excellent story, unmatched characterisation and a world brimming with life and character sets this apart from the crowd. Aside from the gripping plot, it's the little things that make the difference. Townsfolk huddling under canopies to shelter from the rain, birds flocking from a bush and you approach to harvest herbs. Features that The Witcher's big-budget peers (The Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age) lack. Round it off with a simple but elegant combat system and more than a few original ideas to shake up the classic RPG progression path and you've got one of the best action RPGs ever made. I implore you to finish this one and it's fantastic sequel before The Witcher 3 storms onto the scene and rocks our world.
