very a pretty game for the time, cool platforming in first person, and some decent innovations, almost-fast paced shooter/puzzler/platformer, plus if you were a victim of strange 90s censorship, you were glad to have this Doom clone which is similar but adds a bit more--but you need to get over a few things to find it an acceptable purchase.

Controls suck, it runs on MSDos emulation, you don't have a manual and there is no training or keybinding in options within the game. You can remap keys in the dos mapper or w.e. It also is not functional with the steam overlay as far as I can tell so no screenshots and such.

But it "works" without any additional steps needed, will launch from steam without a hitch, etc.

That being said, the game saves and you can restart at any level, and there are guides that you can find very easily that will inform you of the controls, how to change them to be more acceptable, and even set new bindings for you with barely any effort by just dropping a file into the darkforces folder in steam library. If you wish to use mouse inputs for up and down this is achieved by running one additional program in the background when you launch dark forces and inputting a few lines of script, this is not necessary but I enjoy playing it this way the best.

Look for the guides and just take the easy route is my suggestion. Paste the lines of code and save, download 1 program, download 1 .txt file that contains the key mappings.

Past that, this is the same game we grew up with and love. Good soundtrack although basic, good sound effects. Good fun.

So very thankful people took the time to share keybinding layouts as well as implement support for vertical look with mouse. This is why I buy stuff on steam, the fellow users.

https://steamoss.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=286364447 Here is the best guide IMO that does all the work for you (or not) if you are impatient like myself.

NEGATIVE REVIEW FOR VISIBILITY

THIS GAME WILL STRESS YOUR HARDWARE. TURN ON VERTICAL SYNCHRONIZATION IN GRAPHICS SETTINGS.

For some reason this game will run the ♥♥♥♥ out of your gpu, I think the framerate is uncapped and will cause your card to run to it's absolute max. Most people can turn on v sync and that fixes the issue, or some people play in windowed.

This is a pretty fun game. Looks pretty nice, gameplay is kind of repetitive but overall is fun and it will draw me back for more.

But for the love of God, find a way to fix the uncapped framerate issue before playing this game so you don't fry your hardware. I'm talking this thing had my 4gb R9 200series running at a peak 91 degrees Celsius while on low graphics.

Just make sure you aren't going to let this game fry your rig.

I checked v synch and it fixed the problem immediately so I turned everything back up and it's running in a safe range now.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

This game is dead.

It does not even work out of the box, you need to download the xlive.dll (same one you drop in the root folder of bulletstorm) to fix games for windows live.

This makes it SP only. And that is stupid. But the game was dead in the first place, so maybe you were only going to play with yourself anyways lol.

If you are a RE fan, just warning you, this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and the fact you can still purchase it at all is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ too. I feel like they keep the price high solely to discount steeply and occasionally fool someone during sales into buying it, and hoping they don't try it out for 2 weeks.

IDK why they would sell a title that would piss off 99% of the people that would play it. Valve as well as Capcom, I really don't freakin get it. Give me my 10 bucks back dammit.

Don't be tempted by the price tag and RE name. I was once. All I wanted was my 10 bucks back since I couldn't get it to work. After I did get it to work, All I wanted was my time back I spent on it before getting it to work.

End Part 1 of review, now onto the meat of the game. The good, the bad, and the highly detailed.

This game ♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks. It's like if you took RE6 and made is surprisingly worse and multiplayer only, then made it so you can only play with AI. It's just terrible

End part 2 of review.

You can give me 6 dollars now for saving you. You will feel better about that than if you actually bought this game on sale.

It's just a bad gears of war clone with not enough ammo on purpose lol

What can I say, this game is kindof a piece of ♥♥♥♥. If you like action games with lots of QTE and want a darker experience than Tomb Raider, then maybe this is the game for you. , really really bad, and lots of janky sections as well (that's what made me think of Tomb Raider lol), no puzzling, and you basically just run through the game that is purposefully very dark so you don't see how bad it looks. Tomb Raider has more puzzles lol. Game set out to do a lot, and it did most of it badly. Enemies have weird i frames, and you fight mostly human enemies, so it's just a worse, longer RE5- I reiterate.

Fatty enemy is a redeeming quality. There are a few redeeming qualities like the fattie, and the gun store section, and the naked lady lololololol. Seriously tho, TERRIBLE GAME. Chris's campaign is so boring, all shooting. Leons is all slow and annoying, coop progression. They really should have limited the scope of this game.

On a note, if you're playing single player, you should be the partner character and not the main character, because they basically do everything and solve everything and the main character waits a lot. Be Sherry instead of Jake, Helena or w.e instead of Leon etc.

You will notice things left and right where you're like, man, that was pointless, ooh, this is a lackluster hallway with random cars making a path for me, this is gay, this could have been better, i don't care about that, HURRY THE F UP, etc. etc. Then there's 4 campaigns doing it all over again. It's just a bunch of dressing on a boring long tunnel to give the illusion of an environment mostly, but you can't interact with anything at all in said environment. Details are sparse.

The game is bad, the players are bad, and they put this quick shot feature in presumably to cater to bad players who couldn't do the re4 and re5 loop well w a headshot/kneecapper, so they give it to you auto. Game is linear, and you can always push a button that will show you EXACTLY where to go, which you will be doing surprisingly a lot, because this game is bad at letting the player know what to do, it's brainless, but then it goes further to the point of retardation. Game is sloppy. There's a built in crutch for players to not think even harder--mostly, but it also tries to actively solve the sloppy parts where players get lost because of poor level design/cues.

Overall, 4/10 I wouldn't want others to play this poor game, but curiosity basically makes people want to see if it's as bad as people say and some people want to see the story, but damn, it's well over the top even for a Resident Evil game. Idk, for a game w all action that wants to be a movie with crazy fx, and stuff go boom, the story is so shallow and boring. I watched it for a while, then I found myself skipping that junk, even the first time through bc I can't take it. Bad. Bad. Bad.

A poor imitation of all the games it lifted ideas from. Go play Resident Evil Revelations 1 if you want a more mindless RE game that still feels like an RE game. This aint it.

Ubisoft is 100% anticonsumer with their always online requirement for single player games, IT ABSOLUTELY DESTROYS SALES FOR A GAME LIKE THIS! This game deserves to sell better than it did, regardless of quality, which I am unsure about. Some bootleg version would be the superior version, and I think that is downright pathetic.

I had to refund it because that online 24/7 is just ridiculous. What, do they hate poor people? We're the effing product!!!

This review is left as a quantitative piece of data since not buying a software title is not data.

Now for some qualitative info...

♥♥♥♥ UBISOFT. ♥♥♥♥ their whole company lol. Their games suck and the last one I bought was Steep, on as steep sale, and I still regretted it. I'm never giving them another cent if the game requires you to connect to the internet 24/7. You can't play their crap without an internet connection, you get locked out of saves. It's UNHEALTHY and gross, a completely inappropriate social contract that only addicts agree to.

Them having you make a separate account and download some ghetto ass launcher bullSPit is furthermore despicable, but thank you all for enabling them to feel bold enough to make the terrible statements they do about not owning your games. STOP BUYING THEM IMMEDIATELY!

I'm so tired of this company and the way they do business. Thankfully, they make the choice to not support them very very easy, by requiring uplay accounts so they can track you.

(Said in Harvey Weinstein voice) "If we can't quantify how many hours a day these addicts are playing our games, then what's the point in making the game at all?!?!?" -Literally Ubisoft.

"SCREW" em. I have no idea if this game is any good, but thank you for reading! Thankfully South Park Stick of Truth doesn't require that same nonsense, but it's morally dubious to support a company like this with your dollars, regardless of the absence of those terrible requirements. I haven't played a game from these terrible people in like 8 years bc of this, and I suggest you do the same! It's easy! You won't even miss their low effort, hour sink games, I promise.

I plundered this game once, but did not beat it. It is great.

Im also back to buy it so that's nice job on STEAM.

Also bought Fractured but Whole without previously having plundered it.

STEAM made an honest sailor out of this man.

STEAM, the shop/platform of choice for PC gamers. EPIC GAME STORE can go plunder it's own bootyhole.

Devs, if you ever should see this, stick w steam, it is the preferred platform and it makes honest sailors out of scurvy dawgs

If you have nostalgic feelings fro Rush 2049 or any of those games, this is pretty much the game for you.

I have owned it since back when it was very cheap, and I always appreciated what they did. They had a good start by alpha, but they have really really filled this game out and made it into a full release.

Some people complain about controls and physics but they don't have much time in the game at all, they might just be bad or not have it figured out like they think they do.

Overall this is a good game, maybe not worth purchasing at full price unless it becomes much more popular.

I am satisfied though, it is a casual game for me. I can sink some hours into it with all the new content they have added, but I don't see myself marathoning this one.

Challenge levels are the shiznit! Awesome concept. Every part of this game isn't for everyone though, and considering how many different campaigns, modes, and tracks they are offering now, I figured this would be obvious.

Some people just pick one part they don't like and condemn this game though, it's a shame, this is a beautiful game, awesome sound, and it has come soooooooo far. User support makes it so the game could essentially be infinite bc you can share tracks and try other popular user created ones.

But most of all, it is a fun game. I can't emphasize the fun factor enough, especially if you like Rush, or even Hot wheels racing, any of those track racing games, this is just a really great time and captures the feeling of those games perfectly. Great gameplay.

I know it goes on sale, grab a copy for yourself and a friend if you're so inclined.

Most the negative reviews didn't get far enough to enjoy the positives of the game or just harp on the general inclusion of QTE, which I don't mind.

The good:
Gunplay is good if you bother sticking around to enjoy it, and aren't pissed about it being a major part of the game
Cinematics and visuals are great
Voice acting is good
Story is generally passable
Upgrade system is good for weapons and skills
Fun adventure game, but I would recommend against completionist type playthroughs

The Bad:
it's not the Tomb Raider that old school people love
includes a few puzzles that aren't very intuitive at all
includes platforming sections that aren't very intuitive at all, does not provide clues to where you're even supposed to be trying to get to.

A bunch of added collectibles like most games tend to have to increase the perceived value/gameplay hours, add very little.
Not a fan of the mashing and prying, I'd rather just press a button to open the door.
forced walking sections.
meh sort of ending

Conclusion:
People are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, the game is far from perfect, but most people ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the thing didn't even put in enough time to get to its' redeeming and quite good qualities. It is very atmospheric and story oriented compared to other games.

Pick it up on a steep sale, play it through like a 10 hour linear story, keep a guide handy for the few times you might get frustrated.

This is a DECENT game, not perfect, but not the piece of ♥♥♥♥ some reviewers make it out to be. Take the good with the bad

I am running this and the choke point on my setup is VRAM. I am right at minimum requirments for 2gb dedicated, also running 6 core 3.5 ghz processor, I am not disappointed. The game works, I rushed to the first batmobile section to make sure in case I had to return it. First batmobile sections comes maybe 20 minutes in, so you dont have to rush through the cutscenes like I did to check.

Plays like Origins, with some additions that change the controls a bit. You get used to these pretty quick but old habits die hard. Batmobile is in it, which could either be good or bad depending on what you like. There's no more XP for street encounters, no crimes in progress calls etc, so the game is less grindy, but as there is no incentive, all these enemies just get passed by. The riddler stuff is also more tedious than in origins, puzzles aren't as clearly laid out. Batmobile is solid, but not perfect, I enjoy it enough.

Just wanted to review so people know running AMD 7800 series (7870 I think) (I do have 24 gb ram though and I have the graphics turned to lowest setting, YMMV) will work fine on lowest settings and it still looks good, just not great. They have obviously made some major improvements and fixes in the 2 or so years since the release date where everyone seemed to be pissed on the lower end of the setup specs.

I'll try to up the graphics a little bit and update then if I'm sucessful(likely not), but I consider this low detail @30fps to likely be where I stick, which is fine.

Scoop this title while it's cheap.

**Update** I can turn up the level of detail to high so I render stuff from further away, and I can hold 60 fps w no tearing. That's about it though, texture resolution is capped low bc VRAM and I don't mess w the shadows or lighting either. Still looks good, I'm fine with it.
