Overall, good gameplay and level designs, nice art, and nice music. 8/10

Gameplay wise, the game isn't for everyone. It introduces a rather novel and innovative control scheme, different from other spin-off games, takes a bit time to get used to. One major difference from usual side-scrolling games: it doesn't have a jump button. Instead, you'll have to get used to each character's unique dashing which can be pretty obnoxious sometimes. Frankly, I was more than a little frustrated at the beginning. Low mobility characters like Murasa can easily get overwhelmed by full-screen spellcards. A controller would provide a better directional rig and a more instinctive maneuver.

As for game design, the levels in general feel unbalanced. While it's true that the game implied certain characters have harder controls, you can easily lose tons of HP with, again, Murasa against some bosses. Even Easy difficulty can prove to be difficult if you don't know the mechanic well. But then there's Kanako with the funny ↓+Z attack spam and the almost infinite flying C spam which isn't anything close to being balanced if I were to say.

Finally, the character, music and story designs in the game look better other spin-off, the inky texture on character sprites really add a nice touch to the overall graphic. The music style feels consistent. Yuuma's theme really gives off a final boss vibe.(though, technically, she isn't the final boss)

Well, do I recommend the game? What can I say, it's a Touhou game, just buy it.
