genuinely one of the best games i've ever played.

hollow knight is very, very difficult but always keeps you motivated by rewarding you for every kill, even on smaller enemies. the combat is perfect, each boss and enemy having their own distinct moves that are memorable and unique. combat is also fast-paced and keeps you on your feet, but is at the perfect pace where you can still predict the movement and attacks of your enemy.

the progression system is perfect. just like any metroidvania, progression is normally achieved through new movement abilities and such. hollow knight also has additional items such as keys and lanterns which you practically need to advance, but you'll likely be able to afford or grab an item you need when you do need it.

the soundtrack is absolutely amazing, each piece is orchestrated with varying instruments, all songs feeling very appropriate for the area that they play in.

the platforming is very fun, and every ability you get makes movement more and more satisfying.

the story isn't shoved into your face with many cutscenes, you can choose to really pay attention to it if you want to or not. the characters are unique and all have their own unique, memorable, and believable personalities.

the atmosphere is dark, but also keeps a more positive part of it with some cute and kind characters.

the visuals are amazing, everything is hand-drawn and the animations are very fluid and lovely to see. it has actually influenced my art greatly with its amazing, smooth visuals.

it is next to impossible for me to think of any flaws for this game. if you are thinking about getting this, please do. it is an amazing game and it's worth every penny.
