Single player review only.

I havent played military shooters in a while, got burned out during the 360/PS3 days. But i was looking for another open world game, killing dudes, upgrading, finding the things etc. Since this game was 80% off i figured why not. And this game delivers. There actually may be *too* many things to do in this game. I spent a good portion just doing side missions, exploring and doing some of the main quests. But then it started to feel too repetitive but in a negative way. Not sure why. Thankfully though, the main story missions are pretty damn good, same with the voice work.

As a fan of Far Cry, i wanted more of that feel here. So i played in Arcade (easy) difficulty, which isnt exactly easy but is way more forgiving. However, if you want the full tactical experience you can ramp up the difficulty and turn off the hud, waypoints, and more if you wish. You can play with an AI squad which is what i did, but you can also remove them completely and go solo which i thought was a nice feature. But there's some big downsides to that too. You cant get revived, and you lose the ability to have your squad mark targets and kill them instantly with a perk called sync shot in which they do it silently and is very helpful and fun because they do it silently.

Anyways, i had only about 3 or 4 generals(?) to kill before killing the main bad guy. I decided to wrap things up and beat the final boss and got what i suppose is the "bad" ending, but i thought it was pretty good. Then in typical open world fashion you get booted back to the game to continue on if you wish with a notification that i beat 80% of the bosses and if i do them all i'll get a different ending. So I figured why not and spent a few more hours killing all of them and then the main bad guy. The ending was different, but tbh i kinda liked the other one better. Alternatively, if you do things a certain way you can actually kill the main bad guy pretty early on if you want as well, although all the cutscenes afterward will still go on as though he never died which sorta ruins consistency, so dont do that.

Theres tons and tons of weapons, parts and things to find. The weapon parts annoyed me the most though because a weapon part is only good for ONE specific weapon instead of its class. So you can go on for dozens and dozens of hours collecting parts for weapons you either dont want to use or for a weapon you dont even have. Plus, you can only carry two weapons and your side pistol. No upgrades for an extra weapon slot or two which was a bummer. I got to the point where i found a good assualt rifle and sniper rifle both with suppressors and i was doing just fine with them and never bothered with looking for all the other crap out there.

Upgrades are good, but i wish there were more, especially considering theres SO much you can do in this game. It got to the point where i upgraded everything i wanted to and didnt care much to upgrade anything else. Side missions will reward you with one of four types of resources that you need to upgrade a certain skill. Since i upgraded what i want enough i stopped doing side missions and banked over 65 skill points which i couldnt use at all. It would have been nice to use them for something extra like a 1% bonus to something like in the AC Origins/Odyssey games.

Overall though it was a decent shooter.
