Early Access Review
Just a spell, it's just another spell. Ten words...

In the name of Hades! Olympus, I accept this banger!

Edit after putting in some hours:

While succeeding in adding more vanity and eye-candy, the sequel to one of my favourite games feels not only unfinished (which is obvious), but also lifeless. I find people that change their reviews to negative after putting in a lot of hours in game incredibly disengenuous, but I do want to provide some constructive feedback.

While I could always go for a Hades run on the middle of the day, I don't find myself wanting to open this one up. I have narrowed this down to a couple of reasons:

1. I despise every single weapon. This isn't really constructive but I can't really explain it either. I just know that I walk into the armory-room and look at the weaponcircle, sigh to myself, and ask myself: 'which one do I hate the least rn'? The worst offenders are the torches and greataxe.

2. The enemies have way too much health for how varied their movesets are, which artificially lengthens runs. It's not like I take damage at the tree or darkness elite enemies in the forest level, but to beat those enemies flawlessly, It will take almost 2 minutes of evading the same 3 moves on loop.

3. I don't like the bosses. Hecate is trivial. The sirens feel really cheap because of Roxy's bouncing balls which I can't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ see. Cerberus has WAY too much health and spams the same 4 attacks, and Chronos's hitboxes are way too massive from my testing.

4. The boons you get midrun, and the other boosts, feel useless most of the time. A small percentage of the runs however, you get not fairly strong boons, but the most busted ♥♥♥♥ in the game which just autowins you the run. Both of those situations feel bad.

5. When I sometimes load up a run in the middle of the day when I have some time, I find myself quitting on floor 3, the massive one. It takes too much time. I understand what they were going for. I found it cool too, when I first explored it. Now, I can't find myself to finish runs because I know floor 3 is going to take ages for no good reason. I would change the layout to rooms.

All in all, I hope, yet doubt, that Supergiant ends up adressing a lot of these things in the next year. The problems I have with this game boil down to the fact that the game feels designed on a 'surface level', by someone who played it twice, where Hades 1 feels like it was designed by a guy who had to play it for 6 hours a day during the entire development cycle. Hades 2 has potential, I hope the devs don't end up squandering it.

Death to Chronos.
