Early Access Review
TL;DR: Don't buy now. Play SE1.
Wait for SE2 for at least a year or so (probably not until Vertical Slice 3).
It's not ready yet for both newcomers and SE1 veterans. For now. For newcomers this game is extremely void of content, for veterans you can't really build usable cool stuff at all can only build really cool but unfortunately not yet functional builds right now.
The devs have been actively reacting to community feedback, but polishing the game require much time and work, and as for those still considering whether to buy the game and thus viewing reviews, it's currently a no from me. Will definitely change to yes in the future if things go well.

posted at initial alpha release ~28/01/25:

This alpha is way too early! Why this "game" doesn't even have a CONTROL MENU?? and hotbar on cockpit etc, etc. This game is a direct SEQUEL to space engineers 1, and there are fewer things even compared to SE1 when it first came out! Why this game made like a completely new game? (I mean content-wise, like SE1 never existed) and this alpha feels like broken bare bones compared to the current SE1. Or, in other words, this game sure need a sh!t ton of feedback and roasting, so that the devs could actually improve the game accordingly, not in the way how devs think in their own mind, but from general feedback from actual players.

Yes, I can see the potential of SE2, and I'm excited to see a proper next generation space engineers game. The grid, the copy/paste, undo/redo, the visuals, and the struggle for "user friendliness", for which I mean changing rotation to ctrl+wasd. However you need to at least show a pop up to tell people press F1, or the players would only be confused, especially for experienced SE1 players! Many things are so different and counter-intuitive compared to SE1, eg. keybindings, UI, grid info etc., and the current alpha doesn't even support changing keybindings. As a 600+h SE1 veteran I'd prefer not play SE2 now, I'd like to express my gratitude to the devs and brave pioneers who try to make the game better, but building hollow shells with 25cm grid is far from enough to draw me away from SE1. And that's why I said not until VS3, the water is the real game changer here, and by that time most things should be polished enough for me (and other players) to really enjoy.

Hope I'd change from "not recommended" to "recommended" in the future. I'm really looking forward to this game, please don't just rot and die like KSP2 or Homeworld 3.

its made like a completely new game because they had to remake everything in the new engine so form a programming standpoint it is a brand new game, im personally waiting till 1.2 to buy but this is what was advertised as the initial launch
