This is why I completely reworked the plasma bugs in my Plasma Bugs Unleashed mod (in the Guides section) so that they fired the Grenadier_Plasma from the Weapons file. This gave the intended effect of having them be able to fire continuously (every 10 seconds) across the entire map without it turning into a complete test of your sanity. You can see the Google Sheets documents of these files at the below links. The changes are highlighted in yellow.

If you change the default range from 150 to 450, then the plasma bug should be able to fire across the entirety of most maps – but there is a problem. In my original mod, I made these changes and reduced the cool down to 48 seconds (increasing their fire rate by 20%), but you still need to be spotted by an enemy in order for the attack to trigger. So, you would get the initial "plasma launch detected," move your troops out of the circle, kill all of the bugs, and then, the plasma bug would no longer fire, as it could no longer "see" you. Changing the cooldown and everything so that it fired every 10 seconds just turned into a nightmare, especially when more than one plasma was on the map. Because you would be constantly trying to move your troops out of the radii (preventing them from firing), you would always get overrun by attacking warriors and tigers.
