Technically, Black Desert Online is well done and runs pretty well. As an open world, there are plenty of opportunities for glitches or getting stuck, but in my experience, the programming deals with these well.

The problems with the game that lead me to not recommend it are conscious decisions on the part of the developer. One big issue for many players is that most of the time you're playing, there is no way to opt out of player versus player (PvP.) You're protected in the early levels from being attacked, but it doesn't take too long before you be killed in seconds by someone just out to be a jerk. There aren't non-PVP servers, and there's no setting that prevents you from being attacked. The player killers lose 'karma', but that's less than a slap on the wrist in BDO. Ultimately that leads to a sense of paranoia anytime other players are nearby who aren't in your own guild, and preventing you from focusing solely on PvE.
The other design decision is the core of how the game is built. It's a grinding machine with real-world purchases that will easily eat up more money than normal triple A titles. Want a designer outfit? $7 USD. Want more storage space, resurrection items, or to avoid paying in-game taxes on market place sales? They've got that too if you want to pay to get an edge. To further emphasize grinding/purchasing to win, you can not share equipment with other players not in your account. People may be skeptical of my review because I've got over 1000 hours in the game, but it's intentionally designed to be as addictive as possible and rewards you for time spent being logged in, even if you're away from keyboard. It even rewards you for setting a programmed route in which you walk back and forth. It's like the people who sit for hours dropping quarters into slot machines.
The game has a lot of nice visual and gameplay qualities, but the unavailability of PVP-safe servers, endless grinding, inability to share with friends, and the absurd prices of real-money marketplace make this game one I cannot recommend.
