That last post did not age well. Years after I posted that, Defiance went free to play. Then for some stupid reason, Trion Worlds decided to screw over all of their long time fans and stop all support for the original game so that they could re-release the exact same game, with all the same bugs, and make everyone re-purchase anything that they had bought in game over the years as well as resetting everyone's progress, equipment, and records that they had gained along the way.

That worked out so well for them in the end. As of April 29, 2021 Defiance will be closing down its severs for good. Way to turn a good, entertaining game into a free to play cash shop, then close it down and screw over anyone who actually paid for it. It would be nice to have one final patch for the game to allow it to be played solo or private multiplayer. I's the least they could do for long time supporters who actually paid for the game back in the beginning.

Pre-ordered my copy of Defiance. Steam is offering a good bonus package. The optional extras if enough people order push it well above and beyond what other places are offering. The addition of the Red Challenger to all pre-orders made it rather silly to pre-order anywhere but on Steam.
While the game may not be perfect, and might not be what everyone is looking for, you will still get your $60 out of it no question. The buy to play model only adds to that as if you do decide to take a break or stop playing for a while, you can return and play again whenever you feel like it, adding lots of replay value. Combine that with the constant updates of an MMO style game and future DLC and expansion capability and you have yourself a winner.
