This game has aspects of grinding to an extent. But if you're looking to get into it for the first time then there isn't much grind. For newer players it plays more like a roguelike dungeon crawler with co-op so it can be appealing. Every time you reach a goal you find another goal to reach either in game or personally. While there is a big emphasis on co-op the game can be played alone for most if not all of the early game content. For those concerned about the p2w/p2p aspects of the game you shouldn't. While those options are there, as a new player you don't and won't feel and obligation or a need to spend money. Leveling (especially with friends) doesn't take too long and there is a lot of early game content to explore.
Overall i'd say the early game is fun and plays more like a dungeon crawler and you'll be motivated to play more with in game goals along with personal goals. For the late game it takes aspects of grind and rng so if you're into those types of games you'll enjoy it.
