Early Access Review
GO FASTA' AN' KRUMP 'ARDA!

I've seen some utterly baffling reviews about this game so it's time to set the record straight regarding monetization, customization, gameplay, and finding matches:

First of all, the game is completely free. 99.9 percent of paintsjobs, rims, tires, including all playable vehicles in game can be earned through gameplay. Premium kits bought through the WAAAGH pass and in the Teef Shop are unique and change the model of your Ork vehicle, but there is a "Welded" set that can be earned through gameplay for each vehicle for free as well. At the time of writing, the selection of all of these things isn't enormously great as the game is still in early access with new game modes confirmed to be coming.

Secondly, the moment-to-moment gameplay of Speed Freekz consists of obtaining/maintaining blistering speed and using it to outmaneuver/krump the enemy team. On this front, the devs have absolutely krumped it out of the park. From the beefiest Grot Mega Tank to the papery, yet-undeniably-killy Defkilla Wartrike, each vehicle has its own identity and optimal role to play. Including the Rukkatruk Squigbuggy; the only 'dedicated mob healer' which is also capable of demolishing enemies with surprising burst DPS and saws that actually work!

The controls are easy to learn, but the mechanics take time to master. Only Rocket League fanatics are going to be zig-zag backflip killing everyone from the get-go. For many players, I recommend that they play the Shokkjump Dragsta to practice air control for utterly perfect landing dashes. Then try backflipping the universe with the Kustom Boosta Blasta and climb up some walls. Finally, use the MegaTrakk Scrapjet to drill boost into 180-spin-dash-jump-Rokkit cannon to accomplish multiple-kilometer hyperspeed jumps to deliver bombs.

The two available gamemodes are Kill Konvoy and Deff Rally. The latter of which is somewhat self explanatory in title: Rally to point, then try to Deff the other guys. You can also race around to get more points for your team. FASTEST IS BEST therefore they get the most points and everyone can see who's first in each mini-race around the point which leads to some fun and interesting interactions. Kill Konvoy is where it's at though because it's essentially CTF but you have to deliver high explosive to the enemy Stompa, which will to try to dakka you down before you can; this is the mode where SPEED is usually critical and thus why it is the most likely mode to find matches with players at this time.

Unfortunately, it seems that players are having a hard time finding matches with other players. There is something about matchmaking that is undeniably borked and that can make it hard as an EA title with no advertising. However, there are ways around this that are very simple: The Discord community is a gem (the devs are active and care about their game--there's also a very Orky replybot), you can select a server region for prime times (I tend to find more active matches on the Europe server), and you'll probably have to jump matches a few times before finding one that's remotely full (for some reason the borked matchmaking loves to put people in empty lobbies with 10 bots instead of into concurrently running matches with players but also open slots).

RE: Cheating. I encountered a single cheater in my ~300 hours of gameplay so far. When reported, they were banned the next day. That's right, I checked the zoggin leaderboards. Most likely, many new players are experiencing the gap between them, and those that have already dedicated hundreds of hours to min-maxing their high-speed backflipping gameplay.

TL;DR: Gameplay rock solid which is the most important for an Early Access title. THERE IS NO PAY TO WIN OR UNLOCK ANYTHING THAT AFFECTS GAMEPLAY. They nailed the 40k Ork aesthetic. Matchmaking is borked and being fervently worked on, but there are a few workarounds. Community is a gem. Have a great night everybody!
