Early Access Review
Reviewed during early access:

Science is once again proven correct as Risk of Rain 2 has evolved to become crab 🦀

Consistently have a blast playing this. Every new update seems to shake up the game enough with design updates and new content at a really nice frequency to be engaging to play every update. There's been some highs and lows in terms of balance between the updates but it's early access that's to be expected. That said, this is a game that's a blast to play in early access specifically because of that, every update has meaningful changes and makes the game stay feeling fresh and exciting to play. Definitely a gem of early access.
Also as of the current update, there are 69 achievements to unlock. Have I 100% them? Yes. Am I allowed to keep playing once we inevitably get more content to up the number of achievements? I do not know.

Bought during the Survive This Humble Bundle

If you enjoy risk management survival games, you will enjoy this. While I personally got tired of it fairly quickly, I will not say that it is due to the quality of the game, just a matter of personal preference and a short attention span.

This game is great. Why? Because I'm a masochist and it busts my balls like no tomorrow. I've raged, celebrated, cried, and suddenly gone into spontaineous bouts of singing Queen playing this game. It's a roguelike, so prepare for procedurely generated levels, along with permadeath and a high difficulty. How you do will be influenced both by luck and by skill, where you can sometimes get easymode by getting the right item drops... but most of the time you will get shat on by the game and have to get good... or die. Most likely die. Good thing is, it never seems unfair. You know why you died and you will get better for it. You can win. And you will win.

All in all. You will die. A lot. You will rage. A lot. You will do horrible before you get better. You will scream as your luck gives out on you when you search a full level for a key to open an item door. You will dread. as you barely survived the last level and you descend into the woumb. And you will have a blast through it all.

This game is the game that made my childhood. I look fondly back on the moments when I started out and just attached balloons and thrusters to things, to the days where I learned how to build things with the basic props and would have massive fort wars with my friends at the local gaming lounge (iPlay, may you rest in peace), to once I found other gamemodes, and would spend hours playing prophunt, taunting my friends as a can as I ninjad from room to room driving them mad until they got lucky with a grenade, to building massive spaceships in spacebuild and exploring the stars... or at least as far as I could get before I died from exposure, to actually learning how to use spacebuild and building ships with life support so I could go to other planets and terraform them.

Even now, I still go back on from time to time, Murder is my game now, where I've spent full nights becoming best friends with random people as we try to kill eachother and laughing our asses off.

That being said, the game was the best in middle school... and it seem like that's still the case, since there are so many of them on there today. My suggestion... get it, get your friends to get it, and play together. The game is the greatest game of all time.
