I wanted to address some of the recent discussions and controversies surrounding the upcoming 1.4.5 update for Terraria. There seems to be a lot of confusion and misinformation out there, so I thought it would be helpful to provide a clear recap and address some key points.

I want to make it clear that I personally do not support woke nonsense or LGBT propaganda. However, the opposing side, my supposed side, has been absolutely ridiculous in their reactions to this update.

Key Update Details:
The 1.4.5 update, set to be released soon, will remove gender selection from character creation and introduce a pitch slider for voices. This change allows players to choose any body type (from the 5 male and 5 female presets) and assign one of four different voice pitches, independent of gender. Importantly, this update also includes substantial new content and features beyond just the gender options.

Debunking Opposing Arguments:

[list]
[*] "It’s all a slippery slope. We have seen countless fantastic devs start off with small concessions and then before you know it, they are only doing DEI hires and obeying the ESG nonsense. There are too many precedents to overlook even the slightest compliance with this current-day brain rot. The fact that you don't seem to understand that and even defend it as a minor issue tells me you should not be anywhere near the decision-making of how games are developed going forward."
This argument relies on a slippery slope fallacy. The removal of gender selection is a minor adjustment that aligns with Terraria’s long-standing approach to character customization. Importantly, the Gender Change Potion, introduced in the 1.2.1 update back in 2014, demonstrates that Terraria has always supported flexible character options. This new update continues in that spirit rather than signaling a broader ideological shift.

[*] "Cross dressing is also a thing and you don't have to deny your gender to do it. Your argument is null and void. How the hell is taking options away giving more customization? Do you know what giving MORE options means? 'Cause it sounds like you don't."
The removal of gender selection does not eliminate options but refines them by allowing more nuanced customization with features like voice pitch sliders. This approach offers a different form of flexibility rather than fewer options.

[*] "It isn't an open CC. It's just making everyone a featureless blob to click on whatever parts you like. Except you could do that just fine when you could decide between male and female. So really you disproved the need for this from your very first post. The real issue here is WHY the dev suddenly decided to do this now after SO MANY years? Almost as if something changed INTERNALLY where they now care about something so utterly needless. Would love to see if Re-Logic had any recent hirings. I bet they did."
The update maintains detailed customization options and introduces new features like voice pitch adjustment. This change is consistent with Re-Logic’s approach and does not indicate an internal shift or hidden agenda.

Supporting Ally Arguments:

[list]
[*] "Oh no, you’ll have to say that your character is male instead of the game telling you that they are… How will anybody make it past the character creation screen?"
This sarcastic critique highlights that removing gender selection is a minor change. It emphasizes that the real focus should be on the positive aspects of the update.

[*] "There are exactly 15 lines of NPC dialogue which mention the player's gender in any way within the hundreds of lines the game has."
The game was already mostly gender-neutral, so removing gender options aligns with its existing design. The change does not significantly impact the game’s narrative or experience.

Addressing Myths and Misinformation:

[list]
[*] Bad Faith Article: The linked article misrepresents the update by suggesting it’s part of a broader agenda. It includes speculative claims from non-official sources, such as a YouTuber and developers from The Last of Us Part II, who are unrelated to Re-Logic or Terraria. These claims do not reflect Re-Logic’s intentions or policies and rely on fear-driven rhetoric.

[*] Women with Beards: Terraria already allows female characters to have beards, demonstrating the game’s long-standing approach to flexible character customization.

In Conclusion:
The upcoming 1.4.5 update is designed to enhance player customization and inclusivity while adding significant new content and features. The change to character creation is a minor adjustment and maintains the game’s focus on flexibility and player choice. Let’s focus on the positive aspects of these changes and continue to enjoy the creative freedom Terraria offers.
