You can absolutely get many hours out of this game and enjoy them, but beating the main story is miserable.

Story isn't bad and characters (aside from Noct most of the game, but common for FF protagonists) are very fun and well designed. Road trip romping around, etc. is really nice. XV does a great job on the adventure side of things.

Combat and camera are awful, however. Clunky, not intuitive system. Plenty of great action RPGs/brawlers, etc. out there, so it is amazing that they came up with combat this bad. Boss fights are terribly bullet/sword spongey (not to mention annoying. FF boss gimmicks are nothing new, but these are simply frustrating and really just not fun), dodging mechanic does not work consistently or smoothly, and overall I found myself skipping fights toward the end as much as possible. Moreover, the "open world" feels like a Ubisoft open world which some might enjoy, but I have never been a fan of--take of that what you will.

I love Final Fantasy games and enjoy the differences in combat and gameplay through the mainline games, but XV is something that could be a really enjoyable experience marred by absolutely annoying gameplay and mechanics. For me, this is the least enjoyable FF game by far.
