I hesitated for a long time before trying this title because I was skeptical about its "cartoony" style. I thought it wasn't my thing. Having played most of the recent Need for Speed games, I came to the conclusion that the series would never return to the glory days of Underground, Most Wanted, or Carbon. For a long time, I set the series aside and turned to other titles from different publishers.

While browsing the holiday sale on Steam, I stumbled upon NFS Unbound at a good price and decided to give it a shot. Now, the game consumes all of my free time. That "cartoonish" aesthetic has grown on me, and I find it quite intriguing. It blends surprisingly well with the overall atmosphere. As for the story—it’s what you'd expect from Need for Speed. It could be omitted entirely, but it serves as a framework for your progress through the game.

The gameplay is highly enjoyable. The arcade-style racing of Need for Speed offers a refreshing break from sim-racing games or the Forza series. During car customization, you can feel the nostalgic vibes of the older NFS titles. The customization options are extensive, with a plethora of car models to choose from. It’s a fantastic experience.

The soundtrack deserves a special mention. Despite being censored, it creates an amazing atmosphere. I believe this title will evoke nostalgia in 20 years, much like NFS Most Wanted and its iconic soundtrack. It’s been a long time since I’ve had this much fun playing a game. It feels like traveling back in time 20 years to my first playthrough of Most Wanted—the cars, the tuning, the soundtrack, the chases.

The cherry on top is the sensible and playable multiplayer mode. It blends classic elements from older NFS games, like the cops-and-racers mode from Hot Pursuit, with brand-new features such as the innovative "Blockade Mode."

In summary, I wholeheartedly recommend NFS Unbound. It has the power to bring out your inner child, just as Most Wanted did years ago. Give it a try—you won't regret it!
