One of the few non-FromSoft soulslikes I've enjoyed, a very solid game. Doesn't quite live up to its inspirations, but the setting is a nice breath of fresh air for the genre and the usual soulslike elements (exploration, combat, enemy placement, etc.) have been implemented well. Apart from the setting, the main novel thing the game brings to the table is the targetting of body parts to obtain equipment and its upgrade materials. This keeps the gameplay loop fresh and rewarding while the interesting (if not award-worthy) story does the rest.

(From what I've heard, all of these things apply to the first Surge as well to a lesser degree, but I personally haven't played it.)
