The deck is a rock solid device, once you install windows on it. Steam "SD Card Bricker" OS is obviously not the best choice, while linux is an even poorer choice for pc gaming.

If you like messing around with complex 3rd party programs, which are required to get the most basic tasks going, like starting non-steam games, then stick with linux on your deck. However, if you just want to play and not waste your time with unnecessarily complex technical workaround nonsense, do yourself a favor and install the #1 operating system: Windows.

Be smart, install windows. Don't let the cultists fool you. 👍

It's funny because in all honesty the best thing if you don't want to mess with stuff is to just leave it as is with SteamOS, and never exit to Desktop mode for anything. Windows has a lot of little issues on the Steam Deck hardware which can be annoying to fix when you run into them.

Proton is much more compatible now and most games run flawlessly or almost flawlessly. So if tinkering is something you don't want do do, just leave it as is with SteamOS, never leave big picture, and try to only get games that use native controller support (removes the need to remap).

As much as people whine about linux and adding non-steam games you actually do not need to do that, and can just enjoy your Steam Deck for playing Steam games with controller support on the go.

Apologies for the late reply. Just download windows 10 from the official microsoft site. You'll find a tool there, download that to automatically install windows on your steam deck. When the tool asks for an usb stick, use a micro sd card.

That'll be the the easiest method. I did it this way, but keeo in mind that it will replace steamOS. That's totally fine for me, because steamOS is entirely useless for me.If you don't like it, you can still reset and reinstall steamOS on your device.

Another method is to keep everything on the deck, and install windows only on the SD card. More complicated, but then you have steamOS and windows on your device. Here's a step by step guide for this dual boot setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaviK55od6Y

Pardon my ignorance where do u download windows os for the deck easiest and is the windows your using the same as windows 10 or 11, I have copies of them or is there a windows os for cell phones . I apologize I have been dummied up by using strictly Apple hardware and yeah thanks
