Game's fun, but really linear for a metroidvania, to the point where it barely qualifies as one. Metroidvania is a stupid name anyway, please come up with a better name for this genre, gamers.

The tower section was incredibly unnecessarily drawn out for no reason, it was like someone converted a Sierra On-Line adventure game into a platforming game. It's really the only thing I disliked about this game, but I loathed that section so much that I broke a baker's dozen PSA 10 Pokemon card slabs with my fists out of my sheer hatred.

My only other real complaint is the story is overbearing, especially for what looks like a silly cartoon. It would translate better to a different genre, instead of an action game that has to take sometimes long breaks in game play to dump a bunch of text on you. It can be skipped and it's not bad, just out of place and I feel the message could be conveyed with less text.

Worth a play through if you get it cheap because it's mostly fun, the sprites are nicely animated and expressive, the music goes hard, boss battles are cool, and the general game play is fun, but linear (not necessarily a bad thing). I'll just never play it again because the tower was so unenjoyable and it caused my Pokemon card collection to take a significant hit in value.
