Maybe not the best, craziest, whizziest, highest skill ceiling fighter ever made, but damn is it great to get into. NetherRealm has fixed a lot of their biggest gameplay flaws that plagued their earlier games. Definite emphasis on footsies and neutral here, meaning that strategy and skill will decide the winner rather than whoever's best at combos or vortex. Unlocking cosmetics is kinda cruddy still, but with gameplay this good it can be ignored. My biggest and only real gripe is that you can't use custom loadouts in ranked, and you have to set them up in a separate menu to use them at all. It would have been cool if you could choose your moves on the character select, and it would definitely spice up the competitive scene. Luckily my boi Kano has a great pair of default loadouts, so it's all good.

Epic literally killed my entire family and is now posting my nude selfies online for ridiculously low prices. Not really, but making me download their free launcher to play a game is essentially the same thing. Gamers rise up.

I don't get it. Felt like a very easy, super simple level pack for the first Zelda. The whole "only one minute" idea feels tacked on, and was more of an annoyance than an actual mechanic. I kept playing, thinking that it would get more fun or complex, but it never did. The ending was super anticlimactic, too. Like "oh, I'm fighting the final boss now I guess." I wish I would have bought it outright so I could refund it.

Absolutely exceptional game. Every aspect was meticulously crafted to be a perfect blend of fun, scary, and strategic. This isn't an Outlast style game where you just run away from threats and press E to hide in lockers, this is a true survival horror, baby. It's all about moment-to-moment choices: which items you take in your limited inventory, which zombies to kill and which to just avoid to save ammo, which route to take. It doesn't hold your hand, but it's not completely unforgiving, straddling the line just enough to make the tension thicc af.

It's not just a great retro FPS, but also a legitimately fantastic game period. It wholeheartedly embraces what makes classic FPS games so great, such as fast paced frantic combat and intriguing level design that encourages exploration. The retro style graphics feel a lot more natural than other retro-inspired games like Strafe, and it actually looks even better with the optional pixellization filter (set to a reasonable ratio of course), allowing your imagination to fill in the details.

Episode 1 was an extremely compelling start, showcasing some really cool and open level design with optional houses to loot. The secrets in this game feel pretty reasonable, too. Nothing that you can only find through blind luck, but nothing so telegraphed that it's super obvious. I thought the game couldn't get any better, but I was wrong. Episode 2 has some of my favorite levels in any game, such as E2M2, which introduces the invisible Wendigo enemies after a lengthy and tense buildup; E2M4, which features a laboratory undergoing some sort of non-euclidean transformation; and E2M6, in which you explore a floating cathedral/laboratory in the sky. I haven't quite gotten to Episode 3 yet, but I'm about ready to delve in and see what crazy ♥♥♥♥ the deves have planned there.

The gameplay is tight as can be. Strafe jumping seems to have been made in mind, as there are numerous open arenas where you'll mow down waves of badguys while your character skips around at 70mph. It's got every kind of weapon you need, and they all feel excellent to use, from the last-resort pistols to the incredibly powerful rivet launcher. I love how the standard shotgun remains relevant even after acquiring the super shotgun, and the hunting rifle is one of the most satisfying railgun style weapons I've had the pleasure to use.

One of my favorite extra features is Intruder Mode, which takes all your weapons away at the start of each level, forcing you to rely on whatever you find while emphasizing the importance of secret caches hidden through each level.

Dusk manages to recapture the best aspects of classic FPS games and mixes them with the best modern design sensibilities for an all around engrossing, engaging, and overall fun experiences.
