Update 2018/11/22:
The intial negative reviews of this game are mainly due to the fact that it was not free for owners of the original (trashcan-tier) port. While this is a valid complaint, it doesn't detract from the fact this is the best way to experience the original Dark Souls.

Dark Souls at 60fps without breaking the physics, what more do I need to say? Despite what people may say, even with DSFix, the original game ran like ****.

The only cons so far, softbans from hackers (happens in 3), $40 pricetag, not compatible with existing mods.

Not so much a game of hacking as much as trying to figure out what variables you can change and how not to crash the game. The game looked interesting and the beginning was off to an interesting (but extremely easy) start. It goes down relatively quickly, becoming puzzles more of trial and error than logic.

For a game about hacking it would be nice to, I don't know, how about let us write our own ******* code. Overall it turns into an infuriating mess.

If anyone comes out with an half-way decent programming game I'd be interested.

I spent almost half as much time as it took to complete the game just to get it working. Several configuration file edits later, I realized this game does not like having a controller plugged in if you're using a mouse and keyboard.

As for the game itself it's extraordinarily short, from start to finish a blind playthrough took less than three and a half hours and this includes watching all cutscenes including the intro and ending. The game's graphics aren't terrible for the time and for some reason remind me of several old FPS games from the early 2000s. Most of my deaths in the game were due to either getting stuck on an AI companion or the environment. The only level in which I didn't get stuck and killed at least twice had you in a vehicle the entire time. If the game didn't have such terrible friendly AI pathing, getting stuck on objects, sidewalks, doorways, etc..., and such a short length it could have been a fairly decent game.

I would put the value of this at around $5.00 USD which is what I paid, however these days you can catch a sale on a much better / longer game for the same price, as such I do not recommend this game.

*Also I did not touch the multiplayer have have no intentions of doing so.*

While I cannot comment as to the quality of the content as it will not be released for another 2 months; I am downvoting due to the included copy of Far Cry 3 being withheld until the end of May. There is ZERO reason to purchase the Season Pass as of March 31st 2018.

It is exactly two months after originally posting this review. I appriciate the developer response, and the clarification. My complaint still stands that this information was not made available until AFTER the release of the base game (At least on Steam's Store Page).

@Fruit Salad, ignoring the insults and the fact you have nothing better to do than troll review comments. The "remastered" edition of Far Cry 3 was NOT released for PC. As of this writing, the version provided is the same version which was released over five years ago. Go check it yourself if you don't believe me.

This review will be updated as the DLCs are released and I play through them, until then it's remaining as it is.

TLDR: Delayed granting licenses of a 5 year old game until the release of the console remasters, and buttmad fanboys.

Disclosure: A friend gifted me this game as he wanted someone to play with.

I personally haven't encountered most of the connection issues that many of the reviewers talk about. Aside from occastionally getting stuck or an occasional bugged texture / glitchy shadow (which is just as likely to be AMD drivers rather than the game) I haven't encountered anything major. My friend experienced connection issues attempting to join several games which was resolved by restarting the game client. Between the two of us we have only experienced one crash which was attempting to change the graphical options mid match (resulting in the loss of his hunter). As for being unable to play due to server caps, I have yet to experience this playing on U.S. East servers.

Optimization definately needs some work, I wouldn't bother touching this unless you have a fairly powerful rig. (I average 45-60fps, 1080p on mostly low).

As for the game itself, this is one of the few games to actually scare me, the audio design is perhaps the best I have ever encountered in a video game. The subtle and not-so-subtle audio cues are your main hint to the location of other players. The graphics are absolutely beautiful, even on low. The shooting mechanics feel great (though they could use a bit of tweaking as aiming down the sights / readying your weapon brings your view down to where the gun is facing, rather than pulling the weapon up to where you are aiming.)

The enemies and world are terrifying, I nearly screamed the first time I encountered the spider boss, not knowing what to expect. Having an uncomfortable silence interrupted by two barrels to the side of the head at close range was enough to make me almost fall out of my chair.

Overall I give this a cautious reccomendation in it's current state. It currently is in early access and is lacking the polish and content of a full title. If Crytek continues to improve and add to this game, consider this a full reccomendation.

When I was a young child I badly wanted one of those wooden Thomas the Tank Engine sets; unfortunately these were selling for around $500 at the time which was a lot of money for my parents at the time. Now that I have the money and the prices have come down, I do not have the space. Upon seeing this on Steam and looking up a couple of youtube videos, it was a day-one buy as soon as it hit Early Access.

It's a bit rough around the edges and does need work, but if this continues to improve at the same pace, I highly reccomend it.

P.S. It legitimately appeases my autism.

This game is excellent, I'm genuinely shocked at how much they have put in and continue to put in. Should it have launched in the state it did? Absolutely not. But they have gone above and beyond turning this around. They have delivered on all of the original promises and more.

If you're the kind of person that laments the fact they were born too late to explore the world, and too soon to explore the stars? This game is for you. In terms of exploration? there are few games that can rival No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky in it's current state would be a decent foundation for an Early Access Indie title. However with it's current state, it is not worth near $60.00. I am taking advantage of the refund process as the game was nowhere near what was promised by Hello Games. It currently has too many technical and gameplay issues, such as frame drops, crashes, hard locks and others. If this game gets both a significant price reduction (atleast 50-70%), and / or they manage to fix the game... Then it would be worth buying. However at it's current state and price I'd avoid it.

Check out something like Empyrion or Space Engineers if you want to try and scratch the same itch.

Adventures in Contagion.

1. Threw away useless key after needing space for a gun. Later spent 10 minutes had me and my bro-op partner backtracking trying to find the room where the key was, next 5 minutes trying get them out from under a bed.

2. Zombie breaks down a door and smacks me in the face, promptly had to go replace pants.

3. Me and bro-op partner doing well. Out comes a zombie in riot gear, Broson gets eaten by a zombie, I'm left bleeding with 1 bullet, promptly eaten by Broson.

10/10 would get eaten by a zombified Broson again.

Extremely well done for a source engine game, needs some polish but its the first zombie game to fill the void left by BrainBread I've ever found. A bit buggy but worth it on sale for coop.

Excellent Indie game. So far its one of the few games thats actually managed to scare me. This game will actually give you a fear of what lies ahead. Also one of the most disturbing games I've played.
