What makes Mordhau unique is real time combat mechanics. Art of combat is incredible like no other game (besides Chivalry maybe as of 2020) compares to Mordhau. Encouraging clever & skillful use of keyboard & mouse control for intricate control of weapons, shields, position (foot-work) to produce realistic melee. In split-second time the swing, parry, miss, reposte, etc. produces one incredible adrenaline packed rush. Death happens frequently and quite quickly, this makes combat intense. I've yet to see any other swordplay game that is so raw with entertainment value. One learns to survive, building skill to evaded gracefully and counter-attack. Occasionally funny or hysterical things can go down; Even the musical instrument, lute, requires skill to use. Skilled people use voice and emotes playfully to add depth, humor or roleplaying elements.
Many seem to feel this game is bad or give negative review because they actually love it so much. The rush calls players back, because it is such a thrill to play. Addictive more than FPS because techniques can be discovered, learned and eventually mastered. Yes it can be punishing. I bet any gamer who likes real-time combat would easily get money-worth and then some. Additilonally there is fantastic mod community producing custom maps which make the game fresh and exciting even after many hours. Hours upon hours of PVP or play coop vs AI that is fun as hell. Yes people rage-quit and lose their cool all the time. Yes there are nasty people (males really) who can't handle frustration and say rude stuff. Chat can be disabled. Why I am writing such a lengthy review here? After 1700 hours, I am qualified to know what I am talking about. Yes the community can be toxic. Gamers can be toxic. Life goes on, how seriously can one take these fools anyway? I admit for some the skill comes naturally, but for people like myself it took a long time, learning and struggling but still loving it. Also it is practice for mature management of feelings when ego/pride feels punched by loss. One can lose gracefully. Sports-personship is an option. Learn to cope, it is about perspective. Some of us have honor and chivalry and some people just cuss a lot or have temper-tantrums or rage-quit. Does that make the game bad? You tell me. I admit I have spent way too much friggin time on this game. I am certainly not alone, either. This speaks to how fun and compelling the game actually is. Bravo to devs. I think I weighed pros & cons. Enuf Said

Funny, I couldn't recommend this game due to Crush's 0 iq balance changes and his inability to animate. We are still dealing with very broken wrist breaking riposte animations which could easily be fixed by adjusting the parry animation.
