It was the Matrix Cowboys, the toys of the corporate world, which were born out of the North American-Europa Conflict of 2040. They were the shadow agents, digging through the Internet Channels, to penetrate the very bare bones of the Matrix.They strike from there; terrorizing the enemy, and sabotaging the war effort. Ultimately, they were never known to the public. Though, after that war was over, rumors spread of the prowess as the people that won the war for North America. However, they were the ones that would ultimately destroy it. North America use to be a Union of the North American countries of Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Something happened to cause a war between them. These countries, through constant fighting, broke their own banks, had ultimately had to make peace. But, at the price of becoming a balkinized mess. States broke up into small nations. Small nations that would mostly be ran by corporations and other big businesses. They were the only ones with the money, so they would be making the rules, in this Brave New World.

Cyberpunk focuses on a dystopian setting; a futuristic setting where advacements in technology has changed society, but society hasn't changed for the better. As opposed to a utopia where society is organized, society is broken down. A combination of low life and high tech.
