I was recently hacked, and I don't want anyone else to be hacked. A Steam hacker's tactic to taking an account for themselves is usually by inducing fear into the victim or target, like terrorists. They do this usually by using one of your friends accounts. They will use the friend's account and message you saying that you have a "Pending ban report issue," at least this is what happened to me. They will then tell you to talk to a person on Steam, this person will usually be the hacker's main account. The hacker will pretend to be a Steam client. What happened to me was that I was told by a hacker that one of my items was a fraud item. They tricked me into giving them four of my best TF2 items, saying that they needed to verify the items. They also asked me for my Steam account username and password, which I gave to them. Note that if someone claiming to be a Steam client asks you for your password, DO NOT TELL THEM. A real Steam client would never ask you for your password. Anyway, after I gave them my account password, they then asked me for the password for the account that was linked to my account, which I luckily did not know. When my mom finally got home, she was able to stop me before I did anything else. Because I didn't know the password to the linked account, my Steam account was saved. The hacker, however, did not get caught because I did not remember his Steam name and he most likely changed his name after to avoid capture. The hacker will use the victim's account to target the victims friends. The hacker will pretend to be the victim and say to the victim's friends what he said to the victim. A lot of people don't fall for this. When a victim's friends realize and call out the hacker, the hacker will block them with the victim's account and block the message. I lost a lot of my friends when I was hacked, he blocked almost every one of my friends.
